Sharing on the program, actress Ha Xuyen said: "Because of my connection with Thanh Loan, we had a film together that even now, many generations still know about because every April 30th, television stations in the South re-broadcast that film."

Regarding how she was chosen to play the role of Ngoc Mai, actress Ha Xuyen said: "Mr. Long Van was impressed with me in my first film, 'Far and Near,' where I played the role of Ha, a very simple Hanoi engineer. I don't understand why he chose me for the role of Ngoc Mai because Ngoc Mai and Ha don't have anything in common. Living during the subsidy period, Loan and I didn't know what the refined bourgeoisie looked like, or what the comprador bourgeoisie looked like. Honestly, I was very worried when I took on that role. But back then, our only form of entertainment was reading. I read a lot of literature, so the character's personality was already formed in my mind."

Actress Thanh Loan recounted that because filming took nearly four years, she had to bring her children from Hanoi to Saigon for the summer shoot, as she couldn't be away year-round. The veteran actress was also surprised that, despite the tragic fate of her character, Huyền Trang, many families named their children after her character after the film was released."Even now, many people still recognize Nun Huyen Trang and ask me if I was really tortured, but it was all just acting," actress Thanh Loan recalled.

Actress Ha Xuyen vividly remembers the scene where she sits in front of a mirror and smashes it with a perfume bottle. Only much later did the director tell her that the film crew had prepared many mirrors in case Ha Xuyen didn't get it right the first time. But in the end, during filming, after smashing the mirror, tears streamed down Ngoc Mai's face, leaving only a single shard of glass reflecting the character's suffering. The director was extremely pleased because the scene was completed without needing any more mirrors.
