Meet the top-scoring female student in 10th grade from Yen Thanh rice-growing district.
(Baonghean.vn) - These days, the small but well-maintained house of Nguyen Phan Thuy Tien's family in Block 2, Yen Thanh Town, is bustling with teachers and friends coming to share their joy upon learning that she became the top scorer in the 2016-2017 10th grade entrance exam and was accepted into Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School.

Mr. Nguyen Vu and Ms. Phan Thi Quy - Thuy Tien's parents - said: "Thuy Tien is very studious and self-disciplined, so we don't have to remind her much. She doesn't ask us to buy many books; she mainly goes online to find advanced math problems to solve, and studies English. We've also bought her a computer with internet access to study. After leaving school, she helps us with many household chores outside of school hours, such as cooking, sweeping, and cleaning the house..."
Despite knowing she had achieved a high score and was the top student, Thuy Tien continued to diligently study, solving difficult math problems, listening to English audiobooks online, and reading helpful books about life and inspiring stories of students overcoming difficulties to excel in their studies. This self-discipline and thirst for knowledge brought pride to her family and added to the achievements of Bach Lieu Secondary School.

Mr. Le Van Tuan, a math teacher at Bach Lieu Secondary School, shared: “Thuy Tien is a very diligent, well-behaved, and academically excellent student who excels in all subjects. She is very enthusiastic in class, actively participating and contributing to lessons. In particular, she has a creative ability, a strong mathematical thinking skill, and excellent presentation skills. Whenever she encounters a problem, she immediately asks her teachers for help, either directly or by phone. Therefore, I wasn't surprised that she was one of the 11 students in Nghe An province to achieve a perfect score of 10 in math.”
Sharing her study secrets, Thuy Tien said: “I don't have any special secrets to studying; I just focus on my studies and try to study all subjects equally well. For subjects I enjoy more, like Math and English, I dedicate a little more time. Because Math requires a high level of concentration and logical thinking, I often solve a lot of math problems in the morning or evening. For English, I self-study new vocabulary, sentence structures, and access educational websites to help me improve my listening and reading skills, and find math and English practice problems to improve. For other subjects, I focus on listening to the teachers' lectures in class, and if I don't understand something or have questions, I ask the teachers immediately…”
Throughout her nine years of primary school and her time at Bach Lieu Secondary School, a specialized school in the rice-growing district, Nguyen Phan Thuy Tien consistently achieved the title of all-around excellent student. In particular, in 9th grade, she won a Bronze Medal at the National English Olympiad, Second Prize in the Provincial English Competition for gifted students, First Prize in Mathematics and English at the district level for four consecutive years, and her overall GPA was always above 9.3. In the 2016-2017 10th grade entrance exam, I achieved a perfect score of 10 in both Mathematics and English, and 8.75 in Literature. With Mathematics and Literature weighted at 2, I achieved a total score of 47.5, making me the top scorer of the exam. |
