Murder committed over a girl...on Facebook.

Due to a dispute over a girlfriend on Facebook, two young men in Vinh Long beat the victim to death.

On September 22, the Long Ho District People's Court (Vinh Long province) sentenced defendant Nguyen Minh Thuan to 2 years in prison and Nguyen Nhut Truong (both 17 years old, residing in Tan Hanh commune) to 3 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "Intentionally causing injury resulting in death". The two defendants were also ordered to compensate the victim's family with over 80 million VND.

According to the indictment, on the evening of May 21st, Thuan and Truong bought 5 liters of draft beer and went to an internet cafe in Loc Hoa commune to drink. Afterwards, they went into the internet cafe to play games and met Nguyen Nhat Anh (15 years old, residing in the same commune) who was coming out.

Truong had a conflict with Nhat Anh over dating someone on Facebook. After Nhat Anh punched him in the face, Truong grabbed him by the neck and fought back. At this point, Thuan also joined in the fight.

After a scuffle, Nhat Anh, exhausted, was kicked in the face by Truong and lost consciousness. Locals took the victim to the hospital for emergency treatment, but due to airway obstruction causing suffocation and a head injury, he died.
