World silver prices edged lower at the start of trading on December 9th.

After about 30 minutes of trading, the price was at $58.09 per ounce. The narrow range of fluctuations reflects cautious sentiment as the market faces numerous macroeconomic factors and interest rate expectations.

In the Vietnamese market, Phu Quy silver bars were listed at 2.196 million VND/ounce for buying and 2.264 million VND/ounce for selling on the morning of December 9th, unchanged from the previous session. The difference between the buying and selling prices was 68,000 VND/ounce.
Phu Quy's 1kg silver is trading at 58.559 million VND/kg for buying and 60.373 million VND/kg for selling. Prices remain unchanged, with a spread of 1.814 million VND/kg.

The global silver market is being strangled by a prolonged supply shortage. Expert Maria Smirnova says the supply crisis has lasted throughout 2025 and shows no signs of improvement. The continued influx of investment is exacerbating the shortage of silver bullion.
Silver prices surged from the beginning of June, surpassing the $35/ounce mark. In fact, this upward trend had been building for some time due to a supply-demand deficit that had lasted for seven consecutive years. Over a decade, silver mining output decreased by 80 million ounces, while global supply remained at approximately 1 billion ounces, indicating that virtually no new mines were discovered to compensate for the shortfall.
The demand for silver in the technology sectors is increasing at an accelerated pace. Electronics manufacturing, solar panels, electric vehicles, data centers, and AI all require large quantities of silver. As every sector depends on electricity and microchips, increased demand for silver is inevitable, while supply remains limited.
Silver is considered a monetary metal, so it tends to move in the same direction as gold when expectations are that the Fed will lower interest rates and ease monetary policy. The decline in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies has also drawn capital back to precious metals, further supporting the price of silver.
The global silver market is small, only about $60 billion a year, so even moderate buying pressure can create a significant boost to prices.
Silver price forecast
Many experts are offering optimistic forecasts regarding the outlook for silver prices. Some suggest the metal could rise to $60 and then $63 per ounce. Technical analyst Michael Oliver even suggests a stronger possibility, with silver prices reaching $100–$200 per ounce in the next few quarters if demand continues to surge and supply constraints persist.
