Domestic and international silver prices surged on December 27th, driven by expectations of Fed easing monetary policy, with the highest trading price reaching 2.905 million VND per tael.

On the morning of December 27th, the precious metals market witnessed a strong surge in silver prices both domestically and internationally. This upward trend was bolstered by the prospect of low interest rates in the future, increasing the attractiveness of non-yielding assets.

Domestic market: Silver prices rise at many major dealers.

In the Vietnamese market, silver prices this morning recorded an upward trend at most major trading points. Phu Quy Gold and Gemstone Group listed the price of Phu Quy 999 silver bars and ingots at 2,818,000 VND/ounce (buying price) and 2,905,000 VND/ounce (selling price) in Hanoi.

Global markets: Driven by Fed policy

On the international market, the price of silver is quoted around $74.69 per ounce, an increase of $2.88 compared to the morning session of December 26th. According to the current exchange rate, the world price of silver is equivalent to approximately VND 1,980,000 per ounce (buying price) and VND 1,986,000 per ounce (selling price).

Analysts believe this rally is primarily driven by expectations that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will move into an easing monetary policy cycle in 2026. Sagar Dua, an expert at FxStreet, notes that lower interest rates reduce the opportunity cost of holding silver, a key factor in sustaining the strong upward trend.

Data from the CME FedWatch tool shows that investors are betting with a 70.6% probability that the Fed will cut interest rates by at least 50 basis points in 2026. Notably, silver's upward momentum remained stable even as US Q3 GDP reached 4.3%, much higher than the previously forecast 3.3%, demonstrating the metal's continued role as an alternative investment channel.
