In Dak Lak, Mr. Hoang Doanh Huu, CEO of Miss Ede coffee company, said that the high price of coffee in the past two years is causing difficulties for enterprises processing finished products. When the price of domestic raw coffee increased by more than 300%, but the selling price of finished products could not increase correspondingly because the market did not accept such high prices, many enterprises were under great pressure.

Currently, the company has adjusted retail prices but can only increase them by a maximum of 20% compared to the time before the increase in raw material prices. This is a big barrier, making it difficult for businesses to ensure profits when input costs increase too quickly.

Not only coffee, other key agricultural products of Dak Lak such as durian and pepper have also recorded a sharp increase in price of 150-250% in the past two years. However, this has created a big challenge for export enterprises. They have to compete fiercely to purchase raw materials to ensure the implementation of previously signed contracts.

Meanwhile, consumers tend to cut spending, forcing domestic roasters to find ways to adapt to high raw material prices, even risking the appearance of poor quality products to keep selling prices from being too high.

Coffee prices on the world market also fluctuate:

Robusta Coffee (London):

Delivery in May 2025: Up 31 USD/ton, to 5,384 USD/ton.

July 2025 delivery: Up 25 USD/ton, to 5,343 USD/ton.

Arabica Coffee (New York):

May 2025 delivery: Up 2.15 cents/lb, to 386.55 cents/lb.

In the first four months of the 2024-2025 coffee crop year, global coffee exports reached 42.79 million bags, down 4.9% from 45.01 million bags in the same period last year. The supply shortage has caused coffee prices in the international market to increase sharply, affecting the supply chain in many countries.

In Europe, soaring coffee prices have left some shelves bare at major retail chains. The Netherlands has been hit hard, with two leading supermarket chains, Albert Heijn and Jumbo, having to temporarily suspend imports of some products from coffee group JDE Peet's NV as they renegotiate supply contracts.

The situation is similar in Germany, where major supermarket chains such as Edeka and Aldi Nord are struggling to keep up with deliveries. In Belgium, retail group Colruyt has had to suspend orders from Jacobs Douwe Egberts while it renegotiates prices.

JDE Peet's admitted that negotiations with retailers took longer than expected, but said it had reached agreements with 80% of its partners. The company's CEO, Rafael Oliveira, said price increases were inevitable due to rising raw material costs.

Cyrille Filott, global strategist at Rabobank, also said that coffee prices are likely to continue rising. “The question is not whether they will rise, but how much,” he said in an interview with Bloomberg.
