Coffee prices have hit a record high for the first time in years, bucking a long streak of inflation. Asia is now the world’s largest coffee-consuming region and is growing rapidly.
According to experts, the high coffee prices have significantly improved the lives of coffee growers. However, the Vietnamese coffee industry still faces many major challenges.
The transition from raw coffee production to high-quality processed or organic coffee requires time and large capital investments. Most farmers still maintain traditional farming methods and lack knowledge of high-quality coffee production, making it difficult to increase the value of the product.
Export markets also pose many barriers as importers increasingly tighten technical standards. Tariff policies, export certification regulations and international quality standards can reduce the competitiveness of Vietnamese coffee.
In particular, the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) – a market that accounts for 41% of Vietnam’s coffee exports – is putting additional pressure on businesses. Strict requirements on food safety, environmental protection and organic certification can increase export costs, affecting profits and competitiveness in international markets.

However, sales progress for the 2025/26 crop has been significantly slower, at just 13%, below the four-year average of 22%. This reflects limited new supply and farmers’ willingness to hold onto their stocks at current prices.
