Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa), said that Vietnam's robusta coffee output in the 2024-2025 crop year is expected to reach 26.5 million bags, down from 27 million bags in the previous crop year.

The 2024-2025 harvest is now in its final stages, and the coffee trees will enter the bean development stage for the next season. Thanks to abundant rainfall, the coffee flowers are developing well, creating favorable conditions for future supply.

The Vietnamese coffee industry is aiming to achieve a revenue of 20 billion USD/year in the near future. However, the biggest challenges remain the low rate of deep processing, lack of product diversity, high competitive pressure and increasingly strict international market standards.

The EU, which accounts for 41% of Vietnam’s coffee exports, has introduced a regulation against deforestation (EUDR), requiring products to have clear traceability. This poses an urgent need to build a digital map and traceability system for each farm household.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Director of Simexco Dak Lak Sustainable Agriculture, due to the small scale of production, digitizing the supply chain requires a lot of time and cost, requiring coordination between the government, businesses and farmers to adapt to international standards.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices on the world market also fluctuate:

Robusta Coffee (London):

Delivery in May 2025: Down 85 USD/ton, to 5,443 USD/ton.

Delivery in July 2025: Down 85 USD/ton, to 5,421 USD/ton.

Arabica Coffee (New York):

May 2025 delivery: Down 12.2 cents/lb, to 373.5 cents/lb.

July 2025 delivery: Down 11 cents/lb, to 367.55 cents/lb.

Robusta coffee prices in the market are being supported by the slow sales rate from Vietnamese farmers. Currently, many farmers are still holding about 30% - 40% of their stocks in stock, expecting prices to continue to rise.

According to data from Vietnam Customs, in the first 5 months of the 2024-2025 crop year (from October 2024 to February 2025), Vietnam's coffee export volume reached only 539,923 tons, down 21.5% over the same period last crop year.

Vietnam’s coffee output in the current crop year is expected to fall from last year due to weather impacts, exacerbating a global supply shortage that has contributed to a surge in world coffee prices, according to Bloomberg.

Not only Vietnam, many other major coffee producing countries such as Brazil are also facing harvest problems, causing tight supplies. Robusta futures in London have increased nearly 70% in the past year due to concerns about supply shortages.
