World coffee prices today, April 15, 2026

Robusta coffee prices on the London exchange recorded their strongest gain of the week. The May 2026 futures contract rose 3.19%, or $107 per ton, to $3,458 per ton. The July 2026 contract increased 2.98% ($97 per ton), reaching $3,351 per ton. This is the highest robusta price in the past week.

On the New York exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for May 2026 delivery rose 0.6% (equivalent to 1.8 US cents/pound), reaching 302.65 US cents/pound. The July 2026 contract increased 0.46% (1.35 US cents/pound), reaching 297.6 US cents/pound. The increase in Arabica was more modest than that of Robusta, reflecting pressure from the prospect of abundant supply from Brazil in the next crop year.

Reasons for the sharp increase in robusta coffee prices.

The main reason driving the sharp rise in robusta coffee prices on April 15th was the limited supply from Brazil – the world's largest coffee exporter. According to the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Association (Cecafe), the country's green coffee bean exports in March 2026 decreased by 10% compared to the same period last year, to 2.65 million bags. This supply decline directly put upward pressure on prices on international exchanges.

Another key factor is that robusta inventories on the ICE exchange have fallen to their lowest level in over 1.25 years, at 3,911 lots as of April 15, 2026. Low inventories raise concerns about potential short-term supply shortages, triggering buying interest from traders.

The strengthening Brazilian real against the US dollar, reaching a two-year high on Tuesday, also contributed to the price increase. As the real appreciates, Brazilian producers lose incentive to sell to export markets because they receive less local currency, leading to further tightening of international supply.

Weather conditions in Brazil are also being closely monitored by the market. Dry conditions are prevailing in the main coffee-growing regions from the Southeast to Bahia state, with temperatures gradually rising and the week's high approaching 30°C. According to Climatempo forecasts, rain will only return to the Southeast after April 20th, and will remain uneven with low rainfall.

Why is the price of arabica increasing more slowly than robusta?

Arabica coffee prices rose at a more modest rate due to forecasts of a significant increase in production in Brazil next crop year. According to Reuters, agricultural consulting firm Safras & Mercado forecasts Brazilian coffee production in the 2026–2027 crop year to reach 75.65 million bags (60 kg each), a 17% increase from the previous crop year. Much of this increase is expected to come from arabica, with production estimated at 49.95 million bags, a 29% increase.

Furthermore, sales progress for the new crop in Brazil remains slow. To date, farmers have only sold 14% of their projected 2026-2027 crop, significantly lower than the five-year average of 23%. The domestic Brazilian arabica market is quiet with low trading volumes, reflecting the cautious sentiment of producers in the face of current price levels.
