The drop in coffee prices is not surprising because no commodity can increase in price forever, especially agricultural products, and investors take profits when they achieve expected profits.

Information from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam that Vietnam's Robusta exports in January 2025 increased by 6.3% compared to the previous month to 134,000 tons has somewhat cooled down the price of this type of coffee.

Coffee prices on the world market also fluctuate:

Robusta Coffee (London):

Delivery March 2025: Down 59 USD/ton, to 5,735 USD/ton.

Delivery in May 2025: Down 62 USD/ton, to 5,726 USD/ton.

Arabica Coffee (New York):

March 2025 delivery: Down 19.15 cents/lb, to 419.75 cents/lb.

May 2025 delivery: Down 17.7 cents/lb, to 407.4 cents/lb.

Arabica prices fell the most in a week as investors rushed to take profits after prices of this type of coffee continuously reached historical highs. Some experts said that the forecast of a slight increase in Brazil's new crop output in 2026 also caused the price to fall.

A global coffee shortage has pushed prices to record highs, putting pressure on some traders and commodity traders who risk being hit if farmers fail to deliver their contracted quantities and are also exposed to financial risk from higher coffee futures prices.

Arabica prices could fall by around 30% by the end of 2025 as high prices weigh on demand, according to a Reuters survey. Meanwhile, Brazil’s coffee output in the 2025/26 crop year is forecast to reach 40.55 million bags, down from the previous crop but still enough to ensure supply.

Vietnam and Brazil are showing signs of increasing Robusta exports, putting pressure on prices of this type of coffee. Some traders predict Robusta prices could reach $4,200 a tonne by the end of 2025, down about 28% from current levels.
