Coffee prices today, April 17, 2025: Continue to surge dramatically.
Today, April 17th, domestic coffee prices are at 132,000 - 133,000 VND/kg. Coffee prices continue to surge, increasing by 2700 to 3000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. The weakening of the US dollar is also supporting the upward trend in coffee prices.
Domestic coffee prices today
Domestic coffee prices in the Central Highlands region today, April 17, 2025, unexpectedly increased sharply compared to yesterday, fluctuating between 129,300 and 130,200 VND/kg.
Accordingly, traders in Dak Nong province are buying coffee at the highest price of 130,200 VND/kg, a sharp increase of 5,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
Similarly, the price of coffee in Dak Lak province is 130,200 VND/kg, a sharp increase of 5,200 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
Coffee prices in Gia Lai province have risen sharply by 5,000 VND/kg and are trading at 130,000 VND/kg.
In Lam Dong province, the price of coffee increased by 5000 VND/kg and reached 129,300 VND/kg.
Inventories of robusta coffee monitored by ICE fell to 4,249 lots, the lowest level in six weeks as of the beginning of this week. Conversely, arabica coffee inventories rose to a four-week high of over 790,000 bags.
Consulting firm Safras & Mercado forecasts that Brazil's coffee production in 2025 could be slightly higher than previous estimates. However, farmers have only sold about 14% of the crop, lower than the long-term average of 25%, due to several uncertainties, particularly weather and unclear price trends.
Some traders believe that arabica coffee prices could recover and fluctuate around $3.6 to $3.80 per pound this week, as concerns about supply shortages continue to dominate the market.
World coffee prices today
Coffee prices on the world market continued to rise sharply on both exchanges:
Robusta coffee (London):
May 2025 delivery: Increased by $19/ton, to $5,392/ton.
July 2025 delivery: Increased by $12/ton, to $5,352/ton.
Arabica coffee (New York):
May 2025 delivery: Up 5.35 cents/lb, to 374.75 cents/lb.
July 2025 delivery: Up 5.3 cents/lb, to 372.45 cents/lb.
The weakening of the US dollar is also supporting coffee prices. The Dollar Index has fallen to 99.64 – near its lowest level in three years – triggering a wave of short covering and pushing coffee prices higher.
In Brazil, scattered rain occurred last week, with some areas recording up to 30mm of rainfall. The forecast predicts drier weather in the coming days, but rain is possible again the following week. Temperatures in coffee-growing regions are expected to remain between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius as the Southern Hemisphere winter approaches.
Brazil is also about to enter its robusta coffee harvest season. Domestic robusta coffee trading is starting to pick up again, and trading volume is expected to increase sharply in the near future.
Nevertheless, market sentiment remains cautious due to concerns that the global trade war could impact economic growth and reduce coffee consumption demand in the medium term.
