In recent days, coffee prices in Vietnam have been continuously falling sharply, reflecting the impact from the international market and domestic sales. According to experts, there are three main reasons for this trend.
Firstly, geopolitical tensions are causing investment flows to shift to safe-haven assets like gold and crude oil, weakening the agricultural commodities sector, including coffee.
Secondly, Brazil is entering the peak harvest season for the 2025–2026 crop year. Although the arabica harvest has been slowed by heavy rains, the supply of robusta and arabica remains abundant, putting pressure on prices.
Thirdly, the decline in domestic coffee prices after a long period of high prices has prompted many dealers and farmers to rush to sell and lock in profits. Meanwhile, some export businesses have temporarily suspended purchasing to observe the market, causing a temporary weakening of demand.
Furthermore, the strengthening US dollar also affects the export price and competitiveness of Vietnamese coffee in the global market.
World coffee prices today
Coffee prices on the world market fell slightly on both exchanges:
Robusta coffee (London):
July 2025 delivery: Down $16/ton, to $4,345/ton.
September 2025 delivery: Down $13/ton, to $4,179/ton.
Arabica coffee (New York):
July 2025 delivery: Up 5.5 cents/lb, to 338.45 cents/lb.
September 2025 delivery: Up 5.35 cents/lb, to 334.9 cents/lb.
After a period of price increases driven by supply concerns, the international coffee market unexpectedly reversed course and fell sharply as Brazil recorded above-average rainfall in its key growing regions.
According to the Brazilian Meteorological Agency (Somar Meteorologia), the state of Minas Gerais received 10.6 mm of rainfall in the week ending June 14th, equivalent to 131% of the historical average. This temporarily eased concerns about drought, putting downward pressure on the market.
Furthermore, the ongoing and favorable coffee harvest in Brazil is contributing to downward pressure on prices. Data from the analytics firm Safras & Mercado shows that, as of June 11th, 35% of the 2025-2026 coffee crop had been harvested, approximately the five-year average. Of this, 49% of robusta and 26% of arabica had been harvested. However, the arabica harvest has been slightly slowed due to heavy rains in some areas.
Arabica coffee prices have now retreated to their lowest level in two weeks, while robusta has even hit its lowest level in 10 months. Besides weather factors, the market is also being affected by geopolitical instability in the Middle East, causing speculative capital to tend to withdraw from high-risk commodities like coffee.
