Exports have slowed due to high prices and global economic instability, with many warehouses temporarily suspending purchases to await new supplies in October-November and clearer market signals. Currently, exporters are offering Robusta coffee grade 2 (5% broken beans) at prices $400-500/ton higher than the November futures contract on the LIFFE exchange.
World coffee prices today
On the London exchange, online robusta coffee futures contracts for September 2025 closed last week at $4,201 per ton, up 18% ($640 per ton) from the previous week. The November 2025 contract rose 15.9% ($557 per ton), reaching $4,067 per ton.
Meanwhile, on the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for September 2025 delivery rose 11% (34 US cents/pound) last week, reaching 343.35 US cents/pound. The December 2025 contract increased 10.5% (31.8 US cents/pound), reaching 334.2 US cents/pound.
Coffee prices surged last week, reaching their highest level in two months. The main drivers were technical buying and short-term profit-taking. In just one week, Arabica prices rose 10.4% and Robusta prices increased by as much as 18%. Harsh weather conditions, including frost in Brazil, declining exports, and reduced inventories at the ICE exchange further fueled the price increase.
In the US, Brazilian coffee is still subject to a 50% export tariff and has not been exempted. This policy is likely to reduce Brazilian sales to the US market and increase domestic inventory.
According to Bernstein expert Danilo Gargiulo, the imposition of tariffs could cause retail ground coffee prices in the US to increase by 15% to 20%. In this context, many importers may shift to alternative sources such as Vietnam and Colombia, creating opportunities for these markets to expand exports.
In fact, even before tariffs were imposed, global coffee prices were rising due to unfavorable weather conditions in major producing countries. In 2024, coffee prices increased by an average of 38.8% year-on-year, according to a report by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). This trend shows that the coffee market remains highly volatile and unpredictable.
