Coffee prices have remained high in recent times, generating good profits for farmers. However, many experts warn that continuing to hold stocks at this time could pose many risks.
According to a representative of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association, coffee prices are likely to remain stable in the short term. However, prices may fluctuate sharply in the second and third quarters of 2025 as some countries enter their harvest season, especially Brazil, the world's largest coffee producer.
In addition to seasonal factors, the market is also affected by speculative activities and trade tensions between major countries. Changes in economic or international trade policies can directly impact coffee prices, forcing businesses to be cautious in deciding to buy and stockpile goods.
With prices above VND100,000/kg, farmers have made high profits when selling. However, for businesses, this is both an opportunity and a challenge. In recent times, many businesses have made large profits from the high coffee prices, but many businesses have also suffered heavy losses due to stockpiling at the wrong time.
World coffee prices today
Coffee prices on the world market also fluctuate:
Robusta Coffee (London):

July 2025 delivery: Up 33 USD/ton, to 5,484 USD/ton.
Arabica Coffee (New York):

World coffee prices continued to increase in recent trading sessions due to the impact of dry weather conditions in Brazil and the strengthening of the Brazilian Real.
According to a report from the Somar Meteorologia meteorological agency, Minas Gerais, Brazil's largest arabica coffee growing region, received just 30.8 mm of rain in the week ending March 15, 71% of the historical average. This reduced crop yields and put pressure on supplies.
In addition, the Brazilian real rose to a 3-1/2-week high against the dollar, reducing the incentive for Brazilian coffee producers to sell, helping to keep coffee prices high.
Robusta supplies are also tightening. ICE-monitored robusta inventories fell to 4,288 lots at the end of last week, the lowest in two weeks.
Another factor driving up coffee prices is the threat of U.S. tariffs on South American countries. Wholesale coffee prices recently topped $4 a pound in February, partly due to concerns about new U.S. tariffs on coffee exporting countries.
The United States is currently the world's largest importer and consumer of coffee, with Brazil being the largest supplier of coffee to this market. In addition, the United States also imports large amounts of coffee from Colombia and other Central and South American countries.
Negotiations between several coffee exporting countries and the US government are ongoing. If the new tax policy is applied, coffee prices may continue to increase due to higher import costs, affecting both businesses and consumers.
