According to experts, domestic coffee supply is shrinking significantly due to the Lunar New Year holiday disrupting purchasing and export activities. At the same time, weather conditions in the Central Highlands could affect the drying and storage of coffee, further increasing pressure on supply.

Some experts predict that coffee prices may continue to rise in the short term, especially as the market enters the peak purchasing season at the beginning of the year. However, there are also warnings about the possibility of a correction after a series of consecutive sharp increases.

Given the current situation, it is highly likely that domestic coffee prices will reach 130,000 VND/kg in the coming days, especially if supply remains tight and demand from large roasters increases.

Coffee prices on the world market are also subject to many fluctuations:

Robusta coffee (London):

Delivery in March 2025: Decreased by $16/ton, to $5,718/ton.

Delivery in May 2025: Decreased by $15/ton, to $5,694/ton.

Arabica coffee (New York):

March 2025 delivery: Up 4.45 cents/lb, to 377.85 cents/lb.

Market data indicates that coffee growers in Vietnam are hoarding their stock, waiting for higher prices before selling. Meanwhile, in Brazil, unstable weather conditions are raising concerns about declining yields.

The current surge in coffee prices is partly due to recent threats by US President Donald Trump to impose a 25% tariff on Colombian goods imported into the country. Colombia is the world's third-largest coffee exporter after Brazil and Vietnam, and the second-largest supplier of coffee to the US. Although tensions between the US and Colombia have since eased, they have affected overall market sentiment.

Conversely, robusta coffee prices edged lower from record highs as the US dollar index (DXY) rose to a one-week high, triggering liquidation of long positions in coffee futures contracts.

At the same time, robusta prices were also pressured by news that robusta coffee exports from Sumatra Island, Indonesia, in December increased by 345% year-on-year, reaching 20,947 tons, according to data released Friday by the local trade office.
