Domestic coffee prices today

Domestic coffee prices in the Central Highlands region today, May 20, 2025, continued to decrease slightly compared to yesterday, fluctuating between 123,800 and 124,700 VND/kg.

Accordingly, traders in Dak Nong province are buying coffee at a maximum price of 124,700 VND/kg, a slight decrease of 500 VND/kg compared to yesterday.

Similarly, the price of coffee in Dak Lak province is 124,500 VND/kg, a decrease of 500 VND/kg compared to yesterday.

Coffee prices in Gia Lai province decreased by 500 VND/kg and are trading at 124,500 VND/kg.

In Lam Dong province, the price of coffee decreased by 700 VND/kg and is now at 123,800 VND/kg.

From a commercial perspective, Vietnamese coffee exports to the US are predicted to face disadvantages due to the new tariff policy. However, the impact is not too worrying because the US market accounts for only over 8% of Vietnam's total coffee export value. According to experts, coffee exports for the whole year of 2025 could still reach $7 billion, the highest level ever.

Between April 10th and May 12th, 2025, the coffee export market to the US experienced significant fluctuations due to the imposition of retaliatory tariffs. However, the impact on the entire industry remained manageable.

A notable point is that the recent trend in domestic coffee prices has defied the usual pattern. Instead of falling during the peak harvest season from November to April as in previous years, coffee prices this year surged during the harvest period. From the end of April until now, even though the harvest is over, coffee prices have started to show signs of falling again. This indicates that the market is being affected by several unusual factors related to supply and demand and global trade policies.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices on the world market rose slightly on both exchanges:

Robusta coffee (London):

July 2025 delivery: Increased by $71/ton, to $4,936/ton.

September 2025 delivery: Increased by $65/ton, to $4,925/ton.

Arabica coffee (New York):

July 2025 delivery: Up 6.85 cents/lb, to 372.5 cents/lb.

September 2025 delivery: Up 7.2 cents/lb, to 369.7 cents/lb.

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) has raised its forecast for the country's 2025 coffee production to 55 million 60kg bags, a 2.3% increase from last month's estimate. This adjustment is mainly due to the IBGE raising its arabica coffee production forecast to 37 million bags, a 3.5% increase from its previous forecast.

However, despite upward adjustments, arabica production is still projected to decrease by 7.5% compared to 2024. This is due to unfavorable weather conditions and the fact that this is a "low point" year in the biennial biological cycle of arabica coffee. According to IBGE, even-numbered years are typically high-yielding years, exhausting the plants and leading to lower production in the following year.

Meanwhile, the forecast for robusta coffee production remains unchanged at 18 million bags, a 5.5% increase compared to last year. IBGE explains that due to the current profitable price of robusta coffee, farmers have invested more in fertilizers and care, leading to improved yields. In addition, rainfall in growing regions has been relatively favorable, although some areas experienced delayed rain.
