From a trade perspective, Vietnamese coffee is expected to face disadvantages when exporting to the US due to the new tax policy. However, the impact is not too worrying because the US market only accounts for more than 8% of Vietnam's total coffee export turnover. According to experts, coffee exports for the whole year of 2025 can still reach 7 billion USD, the highest level ever.
During the period from April 10 to May 12, 2025, the coffee export market to the US fluctuated strongly due to the reciprocal tariffs imposed by this country. However, the impact on the entire industry is still under control.
One notable point is that the recent domestic coffee price movement has gone against the usual pattern. Instead of decreasing during the peak harvest season from November to April as usual, this year coffee prices have increased sharply during the harvest period. From the end of April until now, even though the harvest season has passed, coffee prices have begun to show signs of decreasing again. This shows that the market is being affected by many unusual factors regarding supply and demand and global trade policies.
World coffee prices today
Coffee prices on the world market increased slightly on two floors:
Robusta Coffee (London):
July 2025 delivery: Up 71 USD/ton, to 4,936 USD/ton.
September 2025 delivery: Up 65 USD/ton, to 4,925 USD/ton.
Arabica Coffee (New York):
July 2025 delivery: Up 6.85 cents/lb, to 372.5 cents/lb.
September 2025 delivery: Up 7.2 cents/lb, to 369.7 cents/lb.
The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) has just raised its 2025 coffee production forecast to 55 million 60kg bags, up 2.3% from last month's estimate. This adjustment is mainly due to IBGE raising its Arabica coffee production forecast to 37 million bags, up 3.5% from the previous forecast.
However, despite the upward revision, Arabica production is still forecast to fall 7.5% compared to 2024. The reason is unfavorable weather and this is a “low” year in the biennial biological cycle of Arabica coffee. According to IBGE, even-numbered years are often high-yielding years, which exhaust the trees, leading to lower production the following year.
Meanwhile, robusta coffee production is forecast to remain at 18 million bags, up 5.5% from last year. IBGE explained that due to the current profitable price of robusta coffee, farmers have invested more in fertilizer and care, helping to improve productivity. In addition, rainfall in growing areas has also been relatively favorable, although some areas have had late rains.
