Domestic coffee prices today

Domestic coffee prices today, August 20, 2025, in the Central Highlands region temporarily stopped increasing, fluctuating between 117,100 - 117,800 VND/kg.

Accordingly, traders in the old Dak Nong region are purchasing coffee at the highest price of 117,800 VND/kg. No change compared to yesterday.

The weather in the Central Highlands is currently cloudy with light showers but still favorable for coffee growth. Many gardens are producing beans with some early fruit, but the yield is still low and the quality is not consistent. Farmers are weeding and preparing to apply the last fertilizer before harvest. Aphids and fungi appear lightly but have not had a major impact. High coffee prices continue to encourage growers to take better care.

In the market, Arabica supply is quite abundant as inventories have reached a 3.5-month high, which may reduce new purchase demand from roasters. At the same time, Vietnam's Robusta output in the 2025-2026 crop year is forecast to increase by 7.9% to 28.8 million bags, contributing to stabilizing supply in the medium term. This is a factor that makes it difficult for coffee prices to increase too sharply.

Coffee prices are still on a slight upward trend in the short term. Domestically, prices fluctuate around 117,500 - 118,000 VND/kg due to limited supply and farmers' wait-and-see attitude. Globally, Robusta and Arabica prices are also expected to increase due to concerns about shortages in Brazil and stable demand.

However, the uptrend will be difficult to be strong if inventories remain high and Robusta supply from Vietnam increases in the coming time. Coffee prices in the coming days are likely to remain flat or increase slightly within a narrow range, unless there are unexpected fluctuations in the international market.

Meanwhile, at the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee futures for September 2025 delivery increased by 1.96% (6.75 US cents/pound) compared to yesterday, to 350.35 US cents/pound. The contract for December 2025 delivery increased by 2.02% (6.8 US cents/pound), reaching 342.85 US cents/pound.

When the Trump administration imposed a 50% import tariff on Brazilian coffee and other agricultural products, New York coffee shops feared they would have to raise prices. Major producers such as Brazil, Vietnam and Colombia also faced sharp fluctuations.

Antony Garrigues, manager of Stone Street Cafe in Manhattan, said the costs were becoming unsustainable. He worried that if the tax continued, many small cafes would struggle to survive given New York’s already high operating costs.

Consumer coffee prices rose 14.5% through July, according to U.S. government data. New Yorkers are starting to tighten their coffee-drinking habits, with many opting to brew at home or only going out on weekends. Some, like Ciao Gloria in Brooklyn, have had to raise prices by 25 cents per cup to cover costs while trying to keep prices within reach of customers.

Small shop owners like Kos Kaffe and Koré Coffee fear they won’t be able to hold on for long, while larger businesses have more options. Nick Kim, manager of Koré Coffee, shares his frustration: “It’s sad to see the worst coming, but there’s nothing we can do but wait.”
