Domestic coffee prices in the Central Highlands region today, August 20, 2025, have temporarily halted their upward trend, fluctuating between 117,100 and 117,800 VND/kg.

Accordingly, traders in the former Dak Nong region are buying coffee at the highest price of 117,800 VND/kg. This remains unchanged from yesterday.

The weather in the Central Highlands is currently cloudy with light showers, but still favorable for coffee growth. Many plantations are producing new beans with some early fruit, but yields are still low and quality is inconsistent. Farmers are weeding and preparing for the final fertilization before harvest. Aphids and fungal diseases are appearing mildly but have not had a major impact. High coffee prices continue to encourage growers to take better care of their crops.

On the market, the supply of Arabica coffee is quite abundant, with inventories reaching their highest level in 3.5 months, which may reduce demand for new purchases from roasters. At the same time, forecasts for Vietnam's Robusta production in the 2025-2026 crop year are expected to increase by 7.9% to 28.8 million bags, contributing to stable supply in the medium term. This is a factor that makes it difficult for coffee prices to rise too sharply.

Short-term coffee prices are still trending slightly upward. Domestically, prices fluctuate around 117,500 - 118,000 VND/kg due to limited supply and farmers' wait-and-see attitude. Globally, Robusta and Arabica prices are also forecast to rise due to concerns about shortages in Brazil and stable demand.

However, a strong upward trend is unlikely if inventories remain high and Robusta supply from Vietnam increases in the near future. Coffee prices in the coming days are likely to remain stable or increase slightly within a narrow range, unless there are unexpected fluctuations in the international market.

World coffee prices today

On the London exchange, online robusta coffee futures contracts for September 2025 closed yesterday at $4329 per ton, up 4.19% ($174 per ton) from yesterday. The November 2025 contract rose 4.43% ($178 per ton), reaching $4198 per ton.

Meanwhile, on the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for September 2025 delivery rose 1.96% (6.75 US cents/pound) compared to yesterday, reaching 350.35 US cents/pound. The December 2025 contract increased 2.02% (6.8 US cents/pound), reaching 342.85 US cents/pound.

When the Trump administration imposed a 50% import tariff on Brazilian coffee and many other agricultural products, New York coffee shops worried about the risk of having to raise prices. Major producing countries like Brazil, Vietnam, and Colombia also faced significant disruptions.

Antony Garrigues, director of Stone Street Cafe in Manhattan, said the costs are becoming unbearable. He worries that if the tax continues, many small cafes will struggle to survive given the already high operating costs in New York.

According to U.S. government data, consumer coffee prices have risen 14.5% as of July. New Yorkers are tightening their coffee-drinking habits, with many opting to brew at home or only going to cafes on weekends. Some cafes, like Ciao Gloria in Brooklyn, have had to increase prices by 25 cents per cup to offset costs while trying to keep prices within a range acceptable to customers.

Small businesses like Kos Kaffe and Koré Coffee fear they cannot survive in the long run, while larger businesses have more options. Nick Kim, manager of Koré Coffee, shared his helplessness: "It's sad to see things getting worse, but we can't do anything but wait."
