Currently, the coffee market is at the end of the season, so the supply is scarce. Buyers are forced to push the price higher than the floor price to buy enough quantity. However, for those who have kept coffee from the beginning of the season (price 110,000 VND/kg) but missed the peak price (135,000 VND/kg), the current price is still considered too low.

According to the International Coffee Organization (ICO), global coffee consumption has increased steadily by 2.2% per year over the past decade, reaching about 177 million bags (10.62 million tons) by 2024. This is due to stable demand in Europe, North America and increased consumption in emerging markets such as Asia and Africa.

Under EU anti-deforestation regulations, expanding coffee growing areas by clearing forests is no longer feasible, which could impact future supply.

Domestic and international coffee prices have increased for six consecutive weeks, reaching many record highs. The reasons are due to scarce supply, extreme weather in major growing regions, increasing production costs and changing trade policies from major importing countries.

As the world’s largest exporter of Robusta coffee, Vietnam is ending the harvest with limited reserves. Although exports in the first six months of the year reached 4.78 billion USD, businesses have sold a lot in advance, so the amount of coffee in circulation is very limited. Units are forced to compete to buy, pushing up domestic prices.

Brazil’s Robusta and Arabica coffee production has declined due to prolonged drought and heat. According to experts, abnormal temperatures in June and July have reduced productivity, affecting global supply. Speculators buying on the derivatives market and rumors of a supply shortage by the end of 2025 have caused prices to rise sharply. Many businesses are forced to buy at high prices to secure contracts amid shortages and price fluctuations./.
