Coffee prices today, March 27, 2025: Rising sharply again.
Today, March 27th, domestic coffee prices are at 134,400 - 135,400 VND/kg. Coffee prices have increased sharply by 1600 to 1700 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Coffee prices on the world market have fallen sharply on both exchanges.
Domestic coffee prices today
Domestic coffee prices in the Central Highlands region today, March 27, 2025, decreased slightly compared to yesterday, fluctuating between 134,400 and 135,400 VND/kg.
Accordingly, traders in Dak Nong province are buying coffee at the highest price of 135,400 VND/kg, a sharp increase of 1,600 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
Coffee prices in Dak Lak province are at 135,400 VND/kg, an increase of 1,700 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
Similarly, coffee prices in Gia Lai province increased by 1600 VND/kg and are trading at 135,300 VND/kg.
In Lam Dong province, the price of coffee increased by 1600 VND/kg and reached 134,400 VND/kg.
In recent days, the Central Highlands region has been facing a severe water shortage. The early onset of drought threatens millions of hectares of key crops such as coffee, pepper, and durian withering due to insufficient irrigation water.
Although it's only mid-March and the dry season hasn't really begun, many areas are already experiencing wilting plants, and in some places, people have even had to cut young rice plants to feed their cattle due to lack of water.
To save their crops, farmers in many areas rushed to drill wells. Initially, the wells were drilled to a depth of about 40–50 meters, but after a short time they ran dry, forcing people to drill deeper, in some places up to 180 meters.
The rampant exploitation of groundwater is causing the water level to drop rapidly; people don't need scientific studies to notice this as everyone is rushing to drill wells.
At the same time, domestic coffee prices are setting new records, surpassing all previous highs in history. The main reason is the scarcity of supply globally, especially for Robusta coffee.
The prolonged drought in major producing countries like Vietnam and Brazil is further straining the market. While high prices bring significant profits to farmers, they pose a considerable challenge for processing and exporting businesses.

Coffee prices on the world market have fallen sharply on both exchanges:
Robusta coffee (London):
Delivery in May 2025: Decreased by $120/ton, to $5,471/ton.
July 2025 delivery: Decreased by $111/ton, to $5,468/ton.
Arabica coffee (New York):
May 2025 delivery: Down 9.65 cents/lb, to 388.9 cents/lb.
July 2025 delivery: Down 9.45 cents/lb, to 383.2 cents/lb.
According to Reuters, speculators are expected to return to the market soon after having previously reduced their net long positions.
A report from Rabobank warns that rainfall in Brazil is at its lowest level in history, and that prolonged drought could severely impact the 2024-2025 crop yield, as well as slow the development of coffee plants for subsequent seasons.
Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the average price per pound of roasted coffee in February reached a record high of $7.25. However, the entire supply chain is under heavy pressure.
Coffee roasters are only buying the minimum quantity needed to stay afloat, while traders are struggling with cash flow and unable to transport goods from production sites to consumption areas.
The coffee futures market is also witnessing caution. Many small and medium-sized roasters are temporarily withdrawing from the market.
According to expert Tomas Araujo from StoneX Group Inc., roasters are still waiting for prices to fall further before resuming hedging. However, he expressed skepticism about the likelihood of coffee prices falling as expected.
