The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) has just revised its 2025 coffee production forecast upwards to 55 million bags, a 2.3% increase from the previous month. Of this, arabica coffee alone is expected to reach 37 million bags, a 3.5% increase. Notably, Brazil is nearing its largest robusta harvest ever.

Not only Brazil, but Indonesia is also accelerating its efforts to surpass Vietnam and become the world's second-largest coffee producer. Currently, Indonesia ranks fourth globally, after Brazil, Vietnam, and Colombia, with an annual production of over 700,000 tons. The country is boosting both production and export strategies to expand its international market share.

Vietnam currently maintains its second position thanks to its large robusta coffee growing area and stable production of approximately 1.8 million tons per year. However, facing competitive pressure from emerging rivals, the domestic coffee industry is predicted to need significant innovation to maintain its position.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices on the world market remained unchanged on both exchanges:

Robusta coffee (London):

July 2025 delivery: Unchanged at $4,790/ton.

September 2025 delivery: Unchanged at $4,786/ton.

Arabica coffee (New York):

July 2025 delivery: Unchanged at 361 cents/lb.

September 2025 delivery: Unchanged at 358.7 cents/lb.

Coffee markets will be closed in New York and London due to Memorial Day in the US and Spring Bank Holiday in the UK. However, recent market developments have shown a negative trend.

Arabica coffee prices are at their lowest level in 5 weeks, while robusta has hit a 6-week low. The main reason is the sharp increase in coffee inventories on the ICE exchange. As of the end of last week, robusta inventories reached their highest level in 8 months with 5,438 lots, while arabica inventories also increased to 886,590 bags, the highest in nearly 4 months.

Another factor putting pressure on prices is concern about consumer demand. Several large corporations, such as Starbucks, Hershey's, and Mondelez International, have indicated that the 10% basic import tariff in the US could lead to higher retail prices and reduce global demand for roasted coffee. This raises the risk that even with increased supply, the market will still face downward price pressure due to slowing consumption.
