Coffee prices today, August 4, 2025: Strong increase over the past week.
Today, August 4th, domestic coffee prices are at 99,200 - 99,500 VND/kg. Domestic coffee prices increased sharply last week, from 2,800 to 3,200 VND/kg. Brazil is shifting its coffee exports to China.
Domestic coffee prices today
Domestic coffee prices in the Central Highlands region today, August 4th, have risen sharply over the past week, fluctuating between 99,200 and 99,500 VND/kg.
Accordingly, traders in Lam Dong province (formerly Dak Nong) are buying coffee at 99,500 VND/kg. This remains unchanged from yesterday.
Similarly, the price of coffee in Dak Lak province remains unchanged at 99,500 VND/kg compared to yesterday.
Coffee prices in Gia Lai province remained unchanged compared to yesterday, trading at 99,400 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, in Lam Dong province, specifically in Bao Loc Ward 1, Hoa Ninh Commune, Duc Trong Commune, and Dinh Van Lam Ha Commune, the price of coffee remained unchanged compared to yesterday at 99,200 VND/kg.
In summary, domestic coffee prices increased sharply this past week, ranging from 2800 to 3200 VND/kg. Specifically, coffee prices in Dak Nong increased by 2800 VND/kg, Dak Lak by 3000 VND/kg, Lam Dong by 3200 VND/kg, and Gia Lai by 3100 VND/kg.
Converted to Vietnamese currency, the current world coffee price is approximately 86,600 VND/kg. This is nearly 13,000 VND/kg lower than the domestic coffee purchase price.
One of the factors affecting coffee prices is the retaliatory tariff policy from the US. However, businesses are currently awaiting more official information before they can clearly assess the impact and develop specific response plans.
Currently, Vietnamese coffee exported to the US is subject to a 20% tariff, lower than Brazilian Arabica coffee. Because Arabica is more expensive, the tariff significantly increases costs, making Brazilian coffee less competitive in terms of absolute value.
World coffee prices today
On the London exchange, online robusta coffee futures contracts for September 2025 closed the trading session on August 3rd at $3330/ton, up 3.16% ($102/ton) from the previous week; contracts for November 2025 increased 1.97% ($63/ton), reaching $3259/ton.
On the New York Stock Exchange, compared to last week, the price of Arabica coffee futures for September 2025 delivery fell 4.69% (13.35 US cents/pound), to 284.2 US cents/pound; the December 2025 contract fell 4.44% (12.9 US cents/pound), to 277.55 US cents/pound. Arabica coffee prices fell to their lowest level in three weeks.
The US will impose a 50% import tariff on certain goods from Brazil, including coffee. The new tariff will take effect on August 6th. This decision is expected to significantly disrupt coffee trade routes from Brazil, the world's largest coffee exporter.
However, the US tariff increase has opened up opportunities for China. Many traders are looking to introduce coffee into the Chinese market. Coffee consumption in China is booming, especially among young people. Many are switching from tea to coffee for greater alertness.
In the first six months of 2025, Brazil exported 538,000 bags of coffee to China, according to figures from the export association Cecafe. Coffee consumption in China has increased by an average of 20% per year over the past decade. In the last five years, per capita consumption has doubled.
Besides China, Europe could also become an important alternative market for Brazilian coffee. The European Union currently does not impose import tariffs on coffee, making it easier for Brazil to expand its market share in the region.
