Domestic coffee prices today, August 4, in the Central Highlands region increased sharply last week, fluctuating between 99,200 - 99,500 VND/kg.
Accordingly, traders in Lam Dong province (formerly Dak Nong) are purchasing coffee at 99,500 VND/kg. No change compared to yesterday.
Similarly, coffee price in Dak Lak province is 99,500 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday.
Coffee prices in Gia Lai province remained unchanged from yesterday and were traded at VND99,400/kg.
In Lam Dong province, in Ward 1 Bao Loc, Hoa Ninh Commune, Duc Trong Commune, and Dinh Van Lam Ha Commune, coffee prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday at VND99,200/kg.
In summary, last week, domestic coffee prices increased sharply from 2,800 to 3,200 VND/kg. Specifically, Dak Nong coffee prices increased by 2,800 VND/kg, Dak Lak coffee increased by 3,000 VND/kg, Lam Dong coffee increased by 3,200 VND/kg, Gia Lai coffee increased by 3,100 VND/kg.
Converted to Vietnamese currency, the world coffee price is currently around 86,600 VND/kg. This level is nearly 13,000 VND/kg lower than the domestic coffee purchase price.
One of the factors affecting coffee prices is the reciprocal tax policy from the US. However, businesses are still waiting for more official information before being able to clearly assess the impact and come up with specific response plans.
Currently, Vietnamese coffee exported to the US is subject to a 20% tax rate, lower than that of Brazilian Arabica coffee. Since Arabica has a higher value, the tax also significantly increases costs, making Brazilian coffee less competitive in absolute value.
World coffee prices today
On the London exchange, the online price of robusta coffee futures contract for September 2025 delivery closed the trading session on August 3 at 3,330 USD/ton, up 3.16% (102 USD/ton) compared to the previous week; the futures contract for November 2025 delivery increased 1.97% (63 USD/ton), to 3,259 USD/ton.
On the New York Stock Exchange, compared to last week, the price of Arabica coffee futures for September 2025 delivery decreased by 4.69% (13.35 US cents/pound) to 284.2 US cents/pound; the contract for December 2025 delivery decreased by 4.44% (12.9 US cents/pound) to 277.55 US cents/pound. Arabica coffee prices fell to their lowest level in 3 weeks.
The United States will impose a 50% import tax on some goods from Brazil, including coffee. The new tax will take effect from August 6. This decision is expected to significantly disrupt coffee trade routes from Brazil, the world's largest coffee exporter.
However, the US tariff increase opens up opportunities for China. Many traders are looking to bring coffee to the Chinese market. Coffee consumption in China is growing rapidly, especially among young people. Many people are switching from tea drinking to coffee to feel more alert.
In the first six months of 2025, Brazil exported 538,000 bags of coffee to China, according to the exporters association Cecafe. Coffee consumption in China has increased by an average of 20% per year over the past decade. Per capita consumption has doubled in the past five years.
In addition to China, Europe could also become an important alternative market for Brazilian coffee. The European Union currently imposes no import duties on coffee, making it easier for Brazil to expand its market share in the region.
