The sharp rise in coffee prices is mainly due to a decrease in supply due to adverse weather conditions, while consumption is increasing. In addition, factors such as financial speculation, high production costs and new trade regulations also contributed to the price increase.
Consumers are being hit hard by the sharp rise in retail and in-store coffee prices, which has led many to change their consumption habits and switch to cheaper alternatives such as tea or instant coffee.
For farmers, higher prices mean better profits, but rising input costs also significantly reduce real profits. In addition, climate change and high production costs make it difficult to expand cultivated areas, limiting the ability to increase supply in the future.

According to Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), coffee export output in February has not reached a high level compared to previous years. He also commented that the current coffee price is very difficult to predict due to too many unstable factors outside of supply and demand, especially the escalating trade tensions between the US and China, which have greatly affected the global coffee market.
