According to Barchart, arabica coffee prices have reached their highest level in the past week, indicating a strong return of buying pressure after a short-term correction.
Coffee prices rose in the last trading session, primarily supported by the surge in the Brazilian Real (USDBRL) to its highest level in 2.25 years against the US dollar. A stronger Real reduces the incentive for Brazilian coffee farmers – the world's largest producer of arabica coffee – to sell their exports. Prices were also supported by the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting global coffee supplies and driving up transportation, insurance, fertilizer, and fuel costs.
According to Notícias Agrícolas, the coffee market is also undergoing a technical correction following recent price drops and a decline in certified coffee inventories on the exchange, which are currently at their lowest level in history on a year-on-year basis. Low inventories are a factor supporting coffee prices in the short term, as buyers compete for available supplies.
In Brazil, the spot market remains sluggish, with buyers holding their offers and producers being more cautious about selling, further fueling price increases.
