According to MXV, the Brazilian Real increased in value yesterday, while the USD is moving away from the 108-point mark. In addition, concerns about the supply situation are the two main reasons pushing coffee prices to the peak yesterday.

Supply concerns in the world’s two largest coffee producing countries, Brazil and Vietnam, have pushed coffee prices to record highs. Brazil’s coffee exports hit a record high early in the season, making current availability even more limited.

The global coffee market is experiencing a supply shortage, particularly in Colombia, the world’s third-largest producer, where both domestic and export prices are at historic highs. Central American countries and most high-quality coffee producers are also reporting sharp inventory declines.

When coffee prices are this high, fundamentals become less important. Speculators will continue to speculate. Many will be attracted to coffee after seeing what happened to cocoa and the rally they missed. This has pushed Arabica coffee up for 10 consecutive sessions.
