Trade between the US and Brazil has come to a standstill after the US imposed a 50% import tax on several agricultural products from Brazil, including roasted and processed coffee. This decision has almost paralyzed coffee trade between the two countries and increased instability in the global market.
Brazil is the main supplier of Arabica coffee to the US. Therefore, the new tax policy makes US importers hesitant to sign new orders, while import costs also increase sharply, affecting the entire supply chain.
In New York, traders said Brazilian coffee shipments were being held at ports or delayed for export due to uncertainty over the final tariff policy, causing market jitters and putting pressure on coffee prices to trend lower in the short term.
In addition to disrupting supply chains, the high tariffs are making Brazilian coffee less competitive in the U.S. market, shifting trade flows and adding costs for U.S. roasters.
