The sharp rise in coffee prices over the past three years has been a boon for farmers and coffee holders. But for some businesses, it has been a nightmare.

Recently, two major Brazilian coffee exporters belonging to the Montesanto group had to file for bankruptcy protection due to serious financial difficulties. The main reason was that the coffee price skyrocketed, farmers "broke the deal", did not supply coffee at the agreed price but chose to sell to the market at a higher price. This caused businesses to suffer huge losses when they were forced to buy coffee at high prices to fulfill previously signed low-price contracts.

In Vietnam, contract violations also occurred in the previous coffee crop, although not as severe as in Brazil. When coffee prices increased too much, the supply chain was broken, many businesses could not fulfill their contracts and had to go to court to resolve disputes.

Learning from previous incidents, this year, Vietnamese coffee exporters have adjusted their strategies, not signing long-term contracts but only signing short-term contracts to ensure business efficiency and minimize risks.

The weekend session continued the sharp decline from the previous day due to forecasts of rain in Brazil. According to Somar Meteorologia, Brazil will have showers from this weekend to next week, helping to ease the long-standing drought.

Robusta coffee was also affected by a report from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam. Accordingly, Vietnam's coffee exports in February increased by 6.6% compared to the same period last year, reaching 169,000 tons. In addition, weather forecasts also show that rain will appear every day next week in the Central Highlands - the largest coffee growing region in Vietnam, putting further pressure on Robusta coffee prices.

Robusta coffee inventories rose to a one-month high on Friday, reaching 4,356 lots, becoming a negative factor for the coffee variety's prices.

Technically, Robusta coffee prices are currently trading within a support range of $5,270/ton and a resistance range of $5,600/ton. If prices break out of this range, the market could see significant volatility.
