Domestic coffee prices have reversed course and fallen sharply after two days of stability and slight increases. Compared to the peak of 135,000 VND/kg in early March 2025, current prices have dropped significantly. If we take the high price of 129,300 - 130,200 VND/kg on April 16th as a benchmark, the current decrease is nearly 37,000 VND/kg, equivalent to over 28%. The current price level is also considerably lower than in February, when it averaged between 94,500 - 95,500 VND/kg.

According to Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association, this latest drop in coffee prices is a predicted trend. For many months, coffee prices have been pushed too high, while global coffee production is on the path to recovery. These recent fluctuations are the result of adjustments based on actual global supply and demand.

In the first and early second quarters of this year, coffee prices rose sharply due to concerns about supply shortages and weather risks. However, as production from Brazil and Vietnam recovered, selling pressure increased, especially as businesses began to take profits and clear inventories. Large roasters also became more cautious in their purchases, putting continued downward pressure on coffee prices in the market.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices on the world market showed mixed movements on the two exchanges:

Robusta coffee (London):

September 2025 delivery: Down $18/ton, to $3,508/ton.

November 2025 delivery: Down $16/ton, to $3,447/ton.

Arabica coffee (New York):

September 2025 delivery: Up 2.35 cents/lb, to 280.6 cents/lb.

December 2025 delivery: Up 1.9 cents/lb, to 275.1 cents/lb.

Robusta coffee prices, primarily used in instant coffee products, have fallen to their lowest level in over a year. As of June 26th, robusta prices on the London exchange were only $3,459 per ton, the lowest level since May 2024. In early July, prices remained around $3,600 per ton, nearly 40% lower than the peak of $5,849 per ton reached in February last year.

Experts believe that this decline in coffee prices is mainly due to expectations of a strong recovery in coffee supply from Vietnam and Brazil. Meanwhile, arabica coffee prices also fell sharply, with futures contracts on the New York exchange reaching only 279.6 cents/lb on July 2nd, the lowest level in the past 7 months.

Despite falling coffee prices, arabica is still projected to remain at a higher level due to its superior quality. In this context, robusta has become a more economical alternative for many roasters. Having experienced a sharp price increase in 2021 following frosts in Brazil, robusta continues to serve as a viable alternative in the global coffee industry.
