Man impersonates police officer, uses dating app to swindle hundreds of millions of VND from women.
Nguyen Van Quang bought police uniforms to gain Ms. H.'s trust and then defrauded her of a total of over 242 million VND.
The Long Khánh City Police (Đồng Nai province) have initiated a criminal case and charged Nguyễn Văn Quang (born in 1990, residing in Xuyên Mộc district, Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu province) with fraud and appropriation of property.
Accordingly, Quang works as an electrical appliance repairman and is facing financial difficulties. In late 2022, in order to facilitate befriending and then swindling money from gullible people, Quang ordered police uniforms, handcuffs, etc., online through social media.

Subsequently, Quang used Facebook's dating feature to get acquainted with many women, including Ms. NTNH (residing in Long Khanh City, Dong Nai Province). When getting acquainted, Quang used false information, posing as Nguyen Dinh Chung working at the Narcotics Department of the Hanoi City Police.
After some time, Ms. H. agreed to get acquainted and developed feelings for him. From March 2023 to April 2024, Quang frequently provided various pieces of information such as needing money for work in remote, dangerous border areas, needing money to pay land tax, needing money to compensate for damages and repair his car due to an accident while on business, and needing money to transfer from the drug sector to the economic sector to facilitate marriage.

From there, the perpetrator gained Ms. H.'s trust and then misappropriated a total of over 242 million VND to pay off debts and for personal expenses.
In April, Ms. H. discovered that Quang was not a police officer and reported him to the local police.
The Long Khánh City Police are currently continuing to expand their investigation into the case.
