Nguyen Ky Linh created a facade for himself as an intellectual working at the Nghe An Department of Education and Training. Linh used his position and extensive connections to secure civil servant positions, school transfers, and arrange overseas employment for others.

On May 12th, the People's Court of Nghe An province held a first-instance trial to hear the case against defendant Nguyen Ky Linh (born in 1981), residing in Cam Binh commune, Cam Xuyen district (Ha Tinh province), for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property"

According to the indictment, in order to pay off debts and for personal expenses, from March 2020 to July 2023, Nguyen Ky Linh used various fraudulent methods to deceive many victims in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces.

Despite not working at the Nghe An Provincial Department of Education and Training, not knowing any leaders or officials in various departments and agencies, and lacking the ability to secure jobs in state agencies, transfer schools, or get students into high schools, Linh lied, claiming she could handle these matters. Trusting her, many victims gave her money to secure positions in schools and high schools.

Nguyen Ky Linh also used the tactic of luring people to work abroad in order to defraud and embezzle money from victims.

Investigators determined that Nguyen Ky Linh defrauded eight victims in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces of a total of over 1.28 billion VND.

At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crimes as charged in the indictment. The defendant stated that due to debt pressure, he used the aforementioned methods to defraud many people.

After his arrest, the defendant arranged for his family to partially compensate some of the victims for the damages.

At the trial, the defendant offered apologies to the victims and those involved. The defendant apologized to relatives and family for the harm caused by his actions. He also requested the court to consider mitigating circumstances and reduce his sentence.

Considering the defendant's actions were dangerous to society and violated the law, the court sentenced Nguyen Ky Linh to 8 years and 6 months in prison for "Fraudulent appropriation of property". Regarding the civil aspect, the court ordered the defendant to compensate the victims.
