Impersonating an official of Nghe An Department of Education and Training to cheat and get a job
Nguyen Ky Linh created a cover for himself as an intellectual, working at the Nghe An Department of Education and Training. Linh had a position and wide connections to get civil servants, transfer schools, and send people to work abroad.
On May 12, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendant Nguyen Ky Linh (born 1981), residing in Cam Binh commune, Cam Xuyen district (Ha Tinh) for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property”.
According to the indictment, in order to have money to pay off debts and for personal expenses, from March 2020 to July 2023, Nguyen Ky Linh used many deceitful tricks to defraud many victims in Nghe An and Ha Tinh.

Although she herself did not work at the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province, did not know the leaders and some departments, agencies, and sectors, and was unable to get a job at a state agency, transfer schools, or "run" students into high schools, Linh lied that she could handle those things. Many victims trusted her and gave her money to help her get into schools and high schools.
Nguyen Ky Linh also used tricks to trick people into sending them to work abroad to defraud and appropriate money from the victims.
The investigation agency determined that Nguyen Ky Linh had defrauded 8 victims in Nghe An and Ha Tinh with a total amount of more than 1.28 billion VND.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crimes as charged in the indictment. The defendant stated that due to debt pressure, he used the above tricks to deceive many people.
After being arrested, the defendant influenced the family to partially compensate the damages to some victims.
At the trial, the defendant apologized to the victims and those involved. The defendant apologized to his relatives and family for the impact his actions had on them. At the same time, the defendant asked the court to consider reducing his sentence.
Considering the defendant's actions as dangerous to society and a violation of the law, the panel sentenced Nguyen Ky Linh to 8 years and 6 months in prison for "fraudulent appropriation of property". Regarding the civil part, the court ordered the defendant to compensate the victims.
