Impersonating provincial police leader to defraud aunt of 4.5 billion VND
Le Quoc Thien (born 2002) provided false information and impersonated a provincial police leader to defraud and appropriate 4.5 billion VND from his relatives.
On November 4, Tien Giang Provincial Police said that the investigation agency is detaining Le Quoc Thien (born 2002, residing in An Thai Trung commune, Cai Be district) to investigate his behavior.fraud and appropriation of property.
At the investigation agency, Thien admitted that because he needed money to pay off debts and spend, he had the intention of defrauding and appropriating the property of his aunt who was living abroad. In November 2023, Thien lied to his aunt that he was working at a professional department of the Tien Giang Provincial Police.
Thien wanted to apply for a job, so he asked his aunt to transfer money to take care of the work. Thien also accessed social networks and rented 3 Zalo accounts.
Thien used these accounts and impersonated the leader of Tien Giang Provincial Police to make friends with his aunt. Thien pretended to be a leader of the Provincial Police to chat with his aunt via Zalo. The victim trusted him and transferred money to Thien to take care of the matter.
In addition, Thien also impersonated a leader of Tien Giang Provincial Police to suggest that his aunt buy 4 liquidated cars at a cheap price. Thien used various excuses such as paying taxes and transfer fees to continue to trick people into transferring money.
Using the above tricks, from November 2023 to August 2024, Thien defrauded and appropriated over 4.5 billion VND from his aunt. Thien spent the embezzled money for personal use.
