Son La: Promoting concentrated livestock farming towards commercial production.
Besides market developments, the livestock farming model in Tuong Ha commune (Son La province) is recording positive results as it shifts from small-scale to concentrated production. With over 1,000 hectares of agricultural land and the advantage of the Hoa Binh hydroelectric reservoir, the commune has implemented many measures to control diseases and provide technical support to the people.
By 2025, Tuong Ha commune will have a large-scale livestock population with 8,730 buffaloes and cows; over 10,000 pigs and more than 70,000 poultry. Notably, the collaborative model of Le Khanh Phu Yen One-Member Limited Company has created a value chain from technical support and vaccination to product distribution, generating billions of dong in profit annually.
Besides livestock farming, the commune also maintains 271 fish cages on the hydroelectric reservoir with high-value fish species such as spotted catfish, carp, and grass carp, bringing in an average income of about 60 million VND/cage/year. The local government's goal in the coming time is to maintain a livestock growth rate of over 5%/year and continue to expand sustainable farm models.
