Gia Lai province has ordered all students to stay home from school starting today, November 19th, to ensure their safety amidst heavy rain, flooding, and the increasing risk of landslides.

The Gia Lai Department of Education and Training has issued an urgent document requiring all educational institutions in the province to suspend classes for students starting the morning of November 19, 2025. This decision was made after the Ministry of Education and Training and the Provincial People's Committee issued a directive requesting proactive measures to respond to heavy rain, floods, and landslides in the Central region. The date for resuming classes will be announced later, depending on weather developments.

The weather in Gia Lai is deteriorating, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides in many areas. The decision to temporarily suspend school attendance aims to ensure the safety of students and minimize risks associated with traveling in conditions of rising water levels, slippery roads, or areas cut off from traffic.

The Department of Education and Training requests that schools coordinate with local authorities to be ready to requisition facilities as evacuation centers when needed. Many low-lying areas may be severely affected, so preparing safe locations is a top priority.

Educational institutions are required to closely monitor flood forecasts, continuously update warning information, and send it to parents. The Department urges parents to absolutely prevent students from traveling through deep water, strong currents, or heavily flooded areas to avoid danger during school holidays.

An Khe Pass is blocked and traffic is paralyzed due to landslides.

From approximately 9:15 AM on November 19th, authorities completely sealed off the An Khê pass on National Highway 19 due to landslides. Prior to this, the Central Highlands Connectivity Enhancement Project Management Board proposed halting traffic to protect people's lives.

Continuous heavy rain has caused water to rush down the slopes onto the road, creating dangerous, fast-flowing currents. The Gia Lai Traffic Police Department has deployed officers to be on duty day and night at both ends of the pass to guide and warn people.

Heavy rains have cut off many key transportation routes. On National Highway 25, the section at Km110 in Uar commune is flooded to a depth of nearly 1 meter over a length of about 150 meters, making it impassable for vehicles.

On Provincial Road 667, at kilometer marker 8+850, a serious landslide occurred, with approximately 10 square meters of the road surface eroded. The Road Maintenance Board has requested the construction unit to urgently reinforce and repair the road to minimize further damage.

In Ia Pa commune, 341 households in Mo Nang 2 village are completely isolated as the culvert leading into the village is submerged under 2 meters of water. Authorities have set up warning checkpoints at both ends, strictly prohibiting people from approaching the dangerous area.

In Chu Krey commune, floodwaters rose above alarm level 3, submerging four culverts connecting villages, causing deep and fast-flowing currents. Local forces used warning ropes and maintained continuous checkpoints to prevent people from crossing.

In Ayun Pa ward, rapidly rising floodwaters submerged Tran Hung Dao street, specifically the section belonging to National Highway 25, with water levels reaching 50-80 cm. Vehicles were completely unable to pass through. This was one of the most severely flooded areas during the heavy rains, significantly impacting the movement and daily lives of residents.
