Rice prices today, June 16th: Fresh paddy prices are showing a slight upward trend in many localities in the Mekong Delta, while prices of other rice varieties continue to remain stable.
Domestic rice prices
According to updates from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, the price of fresh OM 18 rice today ranges from 6,000 to 6,100 VND/kg. Fresh OM 5451 rice is priced from 5,700 to 6,000 VND/kg, and Dai Thom 8 rice from 6,300 to 6,500 VND/kg. IR 50404, OM 380, and Nang Hoa 9 varieties also recorded stable prices within the range of 5,200 to 6,750 VND/kg.
In Can Tho and Kien Giang, traders have started returning to the market, offering slightly higher prices, contributing to a slight increase in rice prices. In An Giang, farmers are more actively selling their summer-autumn rice crop, and trading has become more vibrant again. Conversely, in Dong Thap and Long An, the market remains sluggish, with little new price fluctuation.
In the rice sector, the prices of export raw materials such as CL 555, IR 504, and OM 380 increased slightly by 50 VND/kg, currently ranging from 7,850 to 8,350 VND/kg depending on the variety. OM 5451 and OM 18 rice remain at high levels, at 9,450 – 10,400 VND/kg respectively. Finished rice varieties such as OM 380 and IR 504 continue to be stable at around 8,800 – 9,700 VND/kg.
In localities such as An Giang, Lap Vo (Dong Thap), Sa Dec and An Cu (Tien Giang), the supply of rice remains low, transactions are slow, and the prices of various types of rice have not fluctuated significantly.
The by-product segment saw a slight increase, with OM 5451 broken rice rising by 100 VND/kg to 7,200 – 7,400 VND/kg, while bran prices remained unchanged from yesterday, fluctuating between 9,000 – 10,000 VND/kg.
At retail markets, rice prices remained unchanged compared to the end of the week. Nang Nhen rice was listed at the highest price of 28,000 VND/kg. Fragrant rice, regular rice, and specialty rice varieties such as Jasmine, Huong Lai, Nang Hoa, Soc Thai, Taiwanese, or Japanese rice still fluctuated between 14,000 and 22,000 VND/kg depending on the type.

Export rice prices remain stable, and low-emission rice opens up new prospects.
On June 16th, the Vietnamese rice export market saw no new price fluctuations. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the price of 5% broken rice remained at US$388/ton, 25% broken rice at US$364/ton, and 100% broken rice maintained at US$318/ton.
However, a major highlight in export activities came from the first shipment of low-emission rice exported to Japan – a market known for its stringent quality and environmental standards. This 500-ton shipment was offered at US$850/ton FOB at Ho Chi Minh City port and could reach over US$1,000/ton CIF at the Japanese import port. This is considered a significant step forward, affirming Vietnam's capacity to produce and export high-quality rice, while also meeting the requirements of sustainable development.
Meanwhile, the Chinese market has also seen a strong comeback. In the first four months of the year, China imported nearly 362,000 tons of rice from Vietnam, a 114% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Notably, China is no longer focusing on cheap rice varieties but is shifting towards ST25 rice, fragrant rice, and glutinous rice – higher value-added products that suit the evolving consumer demands of the country.
Sharing his views on export trends, Mr. Do Ha Nam – Chairman of the VFA – said that global demand for high-quality rice is increasing, but Vietnam currently does not have enough production to meet this demand. Therefore, the rice industry needs to focus on developing high-quality rice varieties, especially low-emission rice, to both serve the international market and fulfill the commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050.
