Rice prices today, January 2nd, 2025: Finished rice prices increased slightly, paddy rice prices remained unchanged.
On January 2nd, 2025, the price of finished rice in the Mekong Delta region recorded a slight increase, while the price of paddy rice remained stable. Trading activity in many localities was slow, with limited buying and selling volumes.
Domestic rice prices
In Long An and Soc Trang, rice trading is slow due to the supply of rice awaiting harvest and a lack of buyers. In Dong Thap, traders are mainly exploring the market, with no significant buying activity yet. In Bac Lieu, trading is also sluggish as traders have stopped buying in large quantities.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the price of various types of rice fluctuates between 6,600 and 9,200 VND/kg. Raw IR 504 rice is priced from 9,000 to 9,150 VND/kg, while finished IR 504 rice has increased by 100 VND/kg, reaching 10,700 - 10,800 VND/kg.
At retail markets, rice prices remained stable compared to yesterday. Regular rice was priced at 17,000 - 18,000 VND/kg, while fragrant and specialty rice varieties such as Nang Nhen, Jasmine, and Huong Lai ranged from 20,000 - 28,000 VND/kg.
The price of by-products such as fragrant rice bran and dried rice bran ranges from 5,900 to 8,000 VND/kg.
Export rice prices
On the export market, Vietnamese rice prices remained stable, with standard 5% broken rice at $481/ton and 100% broken rice at $383/ton.
In 2024, Vietnam's rice exports reached a record 9 million tons, earning $5.8 billion, an increase of 10.6% in volume and 23% in value compared to 2023. The Philippines continued to be the largest import market, with a turnover of nearly $2.5 billion, an increase of 57.2% compared to the same period.
According to forecasts from the US Department of Agriculture, global rice supply will increase in 2025, with export volumes expected to reach 56.3 million tons. Import demand in major markets such as the Philippines, China, and Nepal is also predicted to increase, opening up opportunities for the development of Vietnamese rice.
