As of January 20th, the rice market in the Mekong Delta region witnessed a clear differentiation. While the price of fresh paddy remained stable, the price of raw rice for export saw slight increases of 200 VND/kg due to improved purchasing demand.

Export prices for raw rice have been adjusted upwards.

In the retail market, rice prices remained stable. Nang Nhen rice continued to maintain the highest price at 28,000 VND/kg. Other varieties such as Huong Lai rice were at 22,000 VND/kg, Thai long-grain fragrant rice ranged from 20,000–22,000 VND/kg, and common white rice was at 16,000 VND/kg.
The fresh rice market remains stable in many localities.
In contrast to the rising price of raw rice, the price of fresh paddy at the farm gate has not fluctuated much. In An Giang province, fresh OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 paddy is being purchased by traders at prices ranging from 6,300–6,500 VND/kg. IR 50404 paddy remains at 5,500–5,600 VND/kg and OM 4218 paddy is around 6,000–6,200 VND/kg.
Rice trading activity in the Mekong Delta provinces such as Can Tho, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, and Ca Mau is generally quite sluggish. The main reason is believed to be the limited supply of the new winter-spring rice crop entering the market, causing both buyers and sellers to be in a wait-and-see mode.
Developments in the international rice export market.
According to data from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the export price of Vietnamese rice is currently maintaining a stable level compared to its competitors. Specifically:
- Fragrant rice with 5% broken grains:420–440 USD/ton.
- Jasmine rice:446–450 USD/ton.
- 100% broken rice:319–323 USD/ton.
This price reflects the strong competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market, given that global demand has not seen any major surges. Overall, the domestic rice market is in a state of balance, with positive signals from the export sector, expected to create momentum for growth as the main harvest season of the Winter-Spring crop begins.
