Rice price today August 21, 2024: Rice price increases, rice price decreases
On August 21, 2024, rice prices in the domestic market fluctuated in opposite directions when rice prices increased by 100 - 200 VND/kg and rice prices decreased by 50 - 100 VND/kg.
Rice price today 8/21/2024
The price of IR 504 Summer-Autumn rice today decreased slightly, ranging from 11,650 to 11,700 VND/kg, down 50 - 100 VND compared to August 20.
The price of IR 504 finished rice also decreased by 100 VND, currently at 13,700 - 13,800 VND/kg.
At retail markets, prices of rice remain unchanged:
- Nang Nhen rice: 28,000 VND/kg.
- Jasmine rice: 18,000 - 20,000 VND/kg.
- Nang Hoa rice: 20,000 VND/kg.
- Regular rice: 15,000 - 16,000 VND/kg.
- Long grain Thai fragrant rice: 20,000 - 21,000 VND/kg.
- Jasmine rice: 20,000 VND/kg.
- Taiwanese fragrant rice (China): 21,000 VND/kg.
- Regular white rice: 17,000 VND/kg.
- Regular Soc rice: 18,500 VND/kg.
- Thai Soc rice: 20,000 VND/kg.
- Japanese rice: 22,000 VND/kg.

Rice price today 8/21/2024
Rice trading in localities such as Can Tho, Long An and Dong Thap is taking place slowly and prices have not fluctuated much. In Can Tho, no Autumn-Winter rice transactions have been made and rice prices tend to decrease. In Long An and Dong Thap, the amount of rice ready for harvest is still small, leading to less active trading and stable rice prices.
According to the latest information from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the price of IR 50404 rice today is from 7,800 to 8,000 VND/kg.
Dai Thom 8 rice is priced from 8,400 to 8,600 VND/kg, an increase of 100 VND compared to yesterday.
OM 5451 rice is sold at prices ranging from 8,000 to 8,200 VND/kg. OM 18 rice is priced from 8,700 to 8,900 VND/kg, an increase of 200 VND. OM 380 rice is priced from 7,800 to 8,000 VND/kg.
Japanese rice is sold at prices ranging from 7,800 to 8,000 VND/kg.
The highest price of dried Nang Nhen rice is 20,000 VND/kg.
Price of glutinous rice and other by-products
The glutinous rice market remained stable, unchanged from August 20. The price of IR 4625 glutinous rice (fresh) fluctuated from 7,800 to 7,900 VND/kg, unchanged. An Giang glutinous rice (fresh) was priced from 7,000 to 7,200 VND/kg, unchanged.
By-products today saw a price decrease compared to August 20. The price of OM 5451 broken rice is currently from 9,500 to 9,600 VND/kg. The price of dry bran decreased by 300 VND/kg, currently at 7,150 to 7,250 VND/kg.
Rice export price today
In the export market, Vietnam's rice export prices have been adjusted compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 100% broken rice is at 440 USD/ton; 5% broken rice is at 575 USD/ton; and 25% broken rice is at 539 USD/ton.
Countries often increase rice imports at the end of the year. The Philippines and Indonesia, two major markets for Vietnamese rice, have announced that they will import more rice this year.
The Summer-Autumn crop in Vietnam is about to end, and the Autumn-Winter crop is about to begin, both of which are not the main production seasons, resulting in low rice output and an upward trend in prices.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Nam, Chairman of the Vietnam Food Association, commented that the demand for rice imports from traditional customers such as the Philippines, Indonesia, and other countries remains high.
Vietnamese rice exporters are expanding their markets to the Middle East, Africa, South America, Japan and South Korea.
Based on increased import demand, Mr. Nam predicted that Vietnam's rice exports could reach 8 million tons, earning more than 5 billion USD, a new record for the industry.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Phung Duc Tien, said that rice is the 5th largest export item in the agricultural sector and has a high growth rate.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and localities to organize a conference to evaluate rice production and export, while promoting the 1 million hectare high-quality rice project and supporting export enterprises.
