Rice prices today, August 21, 2024: Paddy prices increase, milled rice prices decrease.
On August 21, 2024, rice prices in the domestic market fluctuated in opposite directions, with paddy prices increasing by 100-200 VND/kg and milled rice prices decreasing by 50-100 VND/kg.
Rice prices today, August 21, 2024
The price of IR 504 summer-autumn rice decreased slightly today, fluctuating between 11,650 and 11,700 VND/kg, down 50-100 VND compared to August 20th.
The price of finished IR 504 rice also decreased by 100 VND, currently at 13,700 - 13,800 VND/kg.
At local markets, the prices of all types of rice remain unchanged:
- Nang Nhen rice: 28,000 VND/kg.
- Jasmine rice: 18,000 - 20,000 VND/kg.
- Nang Hoa rice: 20,000 VND/kg.
- Regular white rice: 15,000 - 16,000 VND/kg.
- Long-grain Thai fragrant rice: 20,000 - 21,000 VND/kg.
- Jasmine rice: 20,000 VND/kg.
- Taiwanese (Chinese) fragrant rice: 21,000 VND/kg.
- Common white rice: 17,000 VND/kg.
- Regular Soc rice: 18,500 VND/kg.
- Soc Thai rice: 20,000 VND/kg.
- Japanese rice: 22,000 VND/kg.
Rice prices today, August 21, 2024
Rice trading in localities such as Can Tho, Long An, and Dong Thap is slow, and prices are not fluctuating much. In Can Tho, no autumn-winter rice transactions have taken place, and rice prices are trending downwards. In Long An and Dong Thap, the amount of rice ready for harvest is still small, leading to sluggish trading and stable prices.
According to the latest information from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the price of IR 50404 rice today is between 7,800 and 8,000 VND/kg.
Dai Thom 8 rice is priced from 8,400 to 8,600 VND/kg, an increase of 100 VND compared to yesterday.
OM 5451 rice is sold at prices ranging from 8,000 to 8,200 VND/kg. OM 18 rice is priced from 8,700 to 8,900 VND/kg, an increase of 200 VND. OM 380 rice is priced between 7,800 and 8,000 VND/kg.
Japanese rice is being sold at prices ranging from 7,800 to 8,000 VND/kg.
Dried Nàng Nhen rice fetches the highest price at 20,000 VND/kg.
Prices of glutinous rice and other by-products
The glutinous rice market remained stable, unchanged from August 20th. The price of IR 4625 glutinous rice (fresh) ranged from 7,800 to 7,900 VND/kg, unchanged. An Giang glutinous rice (fresh) was priced from 7,000 to 7,200 VND/kg, also unchanged.
By-products saw a price decrease today compared to August 20th. The price of OM 5451 broken rice is currently between 9,500 and 9,600 VND/kg. The price of dry rice bran decreased by 300 VND/kg, currently at 7,150 to 7,250 VND/kg.
Today's export rice prices
On the export market, Vietnamese rice export prices have been adjusted compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 100% broken rice is priced at US$440/ton; standard 5% broken rice at US$575/ton; and 25% broken rice at US$539/ton.
Towards the end of the year, countries typically increase their rice imports. The Philippines and Indonesia, two major markets for Vietnamese rice, have announced they will import more rice this year.
The summer-autumn crop in Vietnam is coming to an end, and the autumn-winter crop is about to begin. Neither is the main production season, leading to low rice yields and a tendency for prices to rise.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Nam, Chairman of the Vietnam Food Association, noted that the demand for rice imports from traditional customers such as the Philippines, Indonesia, and other countries remains high.
Vietnamese rice exporting businesses are expanding their markets to the Middle East, Africa, South America, Japan, and South Korea.
Based on increasing import demand, Mr. Nam predicts that Vietnam's rice exports could reach 8 million tons, earning over $5 billion, a new record for the industry.
According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Phung Duc Tien, rice is the fifth largest export item in the agricultural sector in terms of value and has a high growth rate.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and local authorities to organize a conference to evaluate rice production and export, while also promoting the 1 million hectare high-quality rice project and supporting export businesses.
