On the market, rice prices have increased slightly compared to yesterday. Raw IR 504 summer-autumn rice is currently priced at 10,500 - 10,700 VND/kg, an increase of 100 VND/kg; finished IR 504 rice has increased by 50 - 100 VND/kg, fluctuating between 12,600 - 12,750 VND/kg.

At local markets, rice prices remained largely unchanged. Nang Nhen rice was the most expensive at 28,000 VND/kg; Jasmine rice was 18,000-20,000 VND/kg; Nang Hoa rice was 21,500 VND/kg; regular white rice was around 15,000-16,000 VND/kg; Thai long-grain fragrant rice was 20,000-22,000 VND/kg; Huong Lai rice was 23,000 VND/kg; Taiwanese fragrant rice was 21,000 VND/kg; common white rice was 17,500 VND/kg; regular Soc rice was 18,500 VND/kg; Soc Thai rice was 21,000 VND/kg; and Japanese rice was 22,000 VND/kg.

Here is the latest update from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province regarding today's rice prices:

IR 50404 rice is priced from 6,900 to 7,000 VND/kg.

Dai Thom 8 rice is priced from 7,800 to 8,000 VND/kg.

OM 5451 rice is priced from 7,200 to 7,400 VND/kg.

OM 18 rice is priced at 7,500 to 7,800 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday.

OM 380 rice is priced from 7,200 to 7,300 VND/kg.

Japanese rice prices remained stable at 7,800 to 8,000 VND/kg.

Dried Nàng Nhen rice fetches the highest price at 20,000 VND/kg.

By-product prices today, October 22, 2024

The current prices for by-products range from 5,900 to 9,600 VND/kg. Specifically, the price of OM 5451 broken rice is 9,500 - 9,600 VND/kg, and the price of dry rice bran is 5,900 - 6,000 VND/kg.

The glutinous rice market remains unchanged. The price of Long An IR 4625 glutinous rice (dry) remains stable at 9,600 - 9,700 VND/kg, while Long An 3-month glutinous rice (dry) maintains its price at 9,800 - 10,000 VND/kg.

Today's export rice prices

Vietnam's export rice prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the price of 100% broken rice was $439/ton, standard 5% broken rice was $534/ton, and 25% broken rice was $506/ton.

According to the Bangladesh Ministry of Agriculture, severe flooding caused by heavy monsoon rains and upstream flooding occurred twice in August and October, killing at least 75 people. The floods severely affected millions of people, particularly in the eastern and northern regions, where crops suffered significant damage.

Floods have significantly reduced rice production. The Bangladeshi government is importing 500,000 tonnes of rice and will allow the private sector to participate in the import. The interim government, which came to power in August after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled, is struggling to stabilize food prices, which have risen by nearly 20% in recent months.

Bangladesh's increased food imports could boost exports from India, the world's leading rice exporter. India reduced its rice export tax to 10% in September.

Besides rice, the floods also damaged more than 200,000 tons of vegetables, and the total agricultural losses in Bangladesh are estimated at around 45 billion Taka (380 million USD).

Bangladesh, the world's third-largest rice producer with nearly 40 million tons annually, is becoming increasingly dependent on food imports due to frequent natural disasters disrupting production.
