On April 2nd, the price of Dai Thom 8 rice in the Mekong Delta increased by 50 VND/kg. Although the rice market showed signs of increased activity, trading sentiment generally remained cautious.

On the morning of April 2nd, the rice market in the Mekong Delta region recorded positive signs as the prices of some fragrant rice varieties edged up. Trading activity improved compared to previous days, however, the overall trend remained stable, without any significant breakthroughs in liquidity.

Trends in rice prices in key growing regions.

According to updates from local authorities, the price of fresh paddy rice generally remained stable, with only fragrant rice varieties showing a slight upward adjustment. Specifically, the Dai Thom 8 rice variety is currently fluctuating around 5,600 – 5,750 VND/kg, an increase of about 50 VND/kg compared to yesterday's trading session.

In Dong Thap Province, the supply of rice for sale is quite abundant, especially fragrant rice varieties, but the volume of new transactions remains low. Similarly, in An Giang Province, farmers are regularly offering their rice for sale, but traders are still buying sparingly. Other areas such as Can Tho City, Vinh Long Province, and Ca Mau Province are experiencing slow trading activity, with no significant price fluctuations.

Raw and finished rice market

Regarding rice, the price of raw rice tends to increase slightly for some high-quality varieties. Dai Thom 8 rice is maintaining a price of 9,200 – 9,400 VND/kg. OM 5451 rice fluctuates between 8,350 – 8,450 VND/kg and CL 555 rice is at 8,000 – 8,050 VND/kg.

Other rice varieties such as OM 380, IR 504, and Soc Thom remained stable around 7,500 – 8,100 VND/kg. For the finished rice segment, IR 504 was commonly priced at 9,500 – 9,700 VND/kg. In An Giang Province, warehouses continued to prioritize purchasing high-quality fragrant rice. Meanwhile, in the Sa Dec region of Dong Thap Province, demand for OM 5451 and Dai Thom 8 varieties remained high, but prices did not change significantly.

By-products and the retail market

By-products such as broken rice and bran recorded a wide price fluctuation range, from 7,600 to 11,500 VND/kg. Notably, IR 504 fragrant broken rice decreased slightly by about 50 VND/kg, while bran prices remained high.

In the retail market, rice prices remained relatively unchanged. Nang Nhen rice continued to lead at 28,000 VND/kg. Other fragrant rice varieties such as Huong Lai, Jasmine, and Japanese rice ranged from 13,000 to 22,000 VND/kg. Common white rice maintained a stable price of around 16,000 VND/kg.

Export rice prices remain stable.

On the international market, Vietnam's export rice prices remain stable. 5% broken rice is offered at around $400-$415 per ton, while Jasmine rice is priced at $430-$434 per ton. Currently, rice prices from Thailand and India are lower in some segments, creating competitive pressure for domestic export businesses.

Overall, although the rice market on April 2nd showed slight signs of improvement in the fragrant rice segment, the cautious sentiment of participants prevented liquidity from truly exploding in the short term.
