Rice prices today, May 25th: High-quality rice remains at 6,700 VND/kg.
The rice market in the Mekong Delta maintained stable prices for the OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 varieties. Domestic trading was subdued as farmers anticipated higher prices.
The rice market in the Mekong Delta region on May 25th recorded a sideways trend at high levels for high-quality rice varieties. Notably, key export rice varieties such as OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 maintained stable growth, reflecting sustained demand from processing units.
Prices for high-quality rice remain stable at 6,500 - 6,700 VND/kg.
Based on observations in key rice-growing areas, the current price for OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 rice varieties is commonly purchased by traders at around 6,500 - 6,700 VND/kg. This price is considered quite positive for farmers, helping to ensure profit margins in the context of significant agricultural input costs.
In An Giang, fresh rice trading remained stable, but the volume did not see a breakthrough. Similarly, in areas of Dong Thap such as Sa Dec and An Cu, although the amount of rice arriving at the docks was not abundant, prices remained high due to farmers' tendency to hold onto their stock.

Domestic trading was subdued due to a wait-and-see attitude regarding price increases.
Despite high prices, trading activity in many localities such as Can Tho, Ca Mau, Vinh Long, and Tay Ninh remains relatively slow. The main reason stems from the discrepancy in expectations between buyers and sellers. Farmers are currently tending to hold onto their goods, waiting for more favorable prices, while businesses and traders are being cautious about disbursing funds to avoid the risk of short-term price fluctuations.
In the raw rice and by-product segments, the market remained relatively stable. Large purchasing warehouses maintained moderate operations, primarily focusing on fulfilling previously signed orders. Specialty rice and retail rice prices remained stable due to steady domestic demand, with no signs of a sudden surge.
Market outlook based on export dynamics
One of the key factors helping domestic rice prices remain stable is the competitive position of Vietnamese rice in the international market. Vietnamese fragrant and high-quality rice varieties continue to be highly regarded for their quality and price compared to regional competitors, creating favorable conditions for exports in the coming quarter.
According to market experts' analysis, in the short term, the prices of OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 rice are unlikely to fall significantly due to the limited supply. However, the market is also unlikely to experience a widespread price surge unless domestic purchasing power shows a clear improvement. The trend of price differentiation between common rice varieties and high-quality rice is expected to become increasingly pronounced in the coming period.
