The rice market in the Mekong Delta maintained a stable, high level. Meanwhile, India's rice exports fell by 6% due to the impact of geopolitical tensions.

Today, May 29th, rice prices in the Mekong Delta region remained stable at a high level; however, trading activity was relatively slow. On the international market, increased shipping costs due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia directly contributed to a decline in India's rice exports.

Rice price trends in the Western region

According to updated data from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, the price of fresh rice remained stable compared to the previous trading session. In An Giang, early summer-autumn rice has begun to be offered for sale, but farmers are still maintaining high prices, causing traders and buyers to be cautious about purchasing.

International market: Indian rice exports decline.

According to a report from the Vietnam Food Association, Vietnamese export rice prices are currently being offered in various segments. Specifically, Jasmine rice ranges from 528 to 532 USD/ton, while 5% broken rice reaches 505 to 520 USD/ton.

On the global market, geopolitical pressures in West Asia are having a clear impact on the agricultural export sector. According to the Indian Federation of Rice Exporters, India's rice exports in April fell by 6% compared to the same period last year, to $1.01 billion. The main reason is the increase in sea freight costs, making it difficult to access key consumer markets.

Although Indian and Thai rice prices are currently more competitive than those of Vietnam, logistical barriers are becoming a decisive factor in the short-term flow of goods in the global rice market.
