Meanwhile, Vietnam's rice export prices also remained unchanged, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), with 100% broken rice priced at 454 USD/ton, 5% standard rice priced at 562 USD/ton and 25% broken rice priced at 532 USD/ton.
India has resumed exports of non-basmati white rice from September 28, with a minimum price of $490 per tonne, which could force other rice-producing countries such as Pakistan, Thailand and Vietnam to lower their prices to compete.
India has also reduced the export duty on basmati rice to 10%. With its large rice reserves, India is helping to reduce rice prices in the international market.
Vietnam’s 5% broken rice prices fell to $560 a tonne, down $20 from last week. Thai rice prices also fell to $550 a tonne, the lowest in more than a year.
Vietnamese rice exporters predict that rice prices will continue to fall due to competition from India. However, some experts say that rice prices are unlikely to fall below $500 per ton due to limited domestic supply.
