Fresh paddy prices in the Mekong Delta on March 13th remained stable at 5,200 – 6,200 VND/kg. Meanwhile, the rice market recorded sluggish trading activity.

The rice market in the Mekong Delta region on March 13th recorded sideways movement for most fresh rice varieties. According to updates from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, although rice purchasing activities in some localities showed slight signs of improvement to serve exports, the overall rice market remained quite sluggish with little price fluctuation.

Prices of fresh rice remain stable in all localities.

In An Giang and Can Tho, fresh rice prices remain stable thanks to deposits placed by mills and warehouses for areas nearing harvest. Specifically, Dai Thom 8 and OM 18 rice varieties are the most sought-after commodities in preparation for export orders to the Philippines.

Conversely, in provinces such as Dong Thap, Ca Mau, Vinh Long, and Tay Ninh, the pace of transactions is slower. The supply of rice to the market is considered stable, but there has been no sudden surge in demand from traders.

The market for raw and finished rice is sluggish.

For rice, raw material and finished product prices remained largely unchanged. In the Lap Vo - Sa Dec area (Dong Thap province), the amount of rice arriving at the docks was not large, and warehouses maintained a cautious purchasing attitude. However, some warehouses in An Giang province have begun to slightly increase the purchase price for high-quality OM 5451 rice.

Regarding by-products, the price of fragrant rice bran recorded a slight increase of about 50 VND/kg, fluctuating between 7,650 and 7,800 VND/kg. Meanwhile, the price of rice bran remained stable at around 10,500 to 11,500 VND/kg.

Retail rice prices and export markets

At traditional markets, retail rice prices remained unchanged compared to the previous session. Nang Nhen rice maintained its highest price at 28,000 VND/kg. Popular fragrant rice varieties such as Huong Lai, Thai long-grain, and Jasmine ranged from 13,000 to 22,000 VND/kg depending on the type.

On the international market, data from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) shows that the export prices of Vietnamese rice remain stable. 5% broken rice is currently trading around US$400-415/ton, 100% broken rice at US$316-320/ton, and Jasmine rice maintaining a price of US$430-434/ton.
