On May 21st, the rice market saw a slight increase in the price of early summer-autumn rice due to low supply. Meanwhile, the export price of Vietnamese Jasmine rice rose sharply by $17/ton to $529/ton.
The rice market in the Mekong Delta on May 21st witnessed mixed trends across different segments. While fresh paddy prices remained stable at high levels, Vietnamese export rice prices surged, particularly Jasmine rice and 100% broken rice.

According to data from the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, rice prices today did not fluctuate much compared to the previous session. However, in some localities, early summer-autumn rice prices have started to rise slightly due to limited supply to the market.

In An Giang, farmers are still maintaining high prices, resulting in low actual transaction volumes. Conversely, in Dong Thap, traders are tending to buy cautiously due to the impact of prolonged rainy weather reducing rice quality. Other areas such as Tay Ninh, Can Tho, Vinh Long, and Ca Mau are experiencing a quiet trading atmosphere.
The domestic rice market remains stable.
Domestic prices for raw and finished rice did not experience significant fluctuations today. Demand for fragrant rice and sticky white rice remained stable.
- Rice as the main ingredient:OM 5451 fluctuated between 9,550 - 9,650 VND/kg; IR 504 reached 8,400 - 8,550 VND/kg; OM 18 maintained its price at 8,700 - 8,850 VND/kg.
- Retail rice:Nang Nhen rice is listed at the highest price of 28,000 VND/kg. Huong Lai rice and Japanese rice are both at 22,000 VND/kg. Common types of rice range from 12,000 - 13,000 VND/kg.
In the Sa Dec area of Dong Thap and An Cu, An Giang, the supply of rice to warehouses is limited, causing export warehouses and market warehouses to maintain a slow purchasing pace.
Vietnamese rice export prices have risen sharply.
The most notable highlight of today's trading session came from the export market. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the selling prices of Vietnamese rice increased across the board for many major varieties.
Specifically, Jasmine rice reached $525-$529 per ton, a sharp increase of $17 per ton compared to the beginning of the week. 100% broken rice also increased by $5 per ton, currently trading around $336-$340 per ton. Fragrant rice with 5% broken grains fluctuated between $505-$520 per ton.
On the international market, the price of Thai rice with 5% broken grains also increased by $4/ton to $426-$430/ton. Meanwhile, the same type of rice from India decreased slightly by $2/ton, to $342-$346/ton, reflecting a clear divergence between major global suppliers.
