Early summer-autumn rice prices in the Mekong Delta are showing an upward trend due to limited supply. Meanwhile, the export price of Vietnamese Jasmine rice has increased sharply by $17/ton compared to the beginning of the week.

The rice market in the Mekong Delta on May 21st saw mixed trends across different commodities. Notably, the price of early summer-autumn rice in some localities showed signs of increasing due to limited supply. However, actual trading activity was quite slow because the quality of the rice was affected by prolonged rainy weather.

The fresh rice market remains stable, while the summer-autumn rice market has seen a slight increase.

According to a report from the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the price of fresh rice remains stable for most varieties. However, in some areas of An Giang and Dong Thap, the price of early summer-autumn rice has started to increase slightly due to demand from traders while the harvest yield is not yet large.

In other areas such as Tay Ninh, Can Tho, Vinh Long, and Ca Mau, the market is relatively quiet, with little sudden price fluctuation. Farmers in An Giang tend to maintain high prices, causing warehouses and traders to buy cautiously.

Domestic rice prices remain stable, while retail rice prices stay high.

In contrast to the slight increase in fresh paddy prices, the domestic market for raw and finished rice did not experience significant fluctuations. In the Sa Dec, Dong Thap, and An Cu areas, the amount of goods arriving at warehouses was relatively low, and export units maintained a slow pace of purchasing.

Specifically, OM 5451 raw rice is offered at 9,550 - 9,650 VND/kg. IR 504 raw rice for export ranges from 8,400 - 8,550 VND/kg. Fragrant rice varieties such as Dai Thom 8 and OM 18 are priced at 9,200 - 9,400 VND/kg and 8,700 - 8,850 VND/kg respectively.

In the retail market, prices for consumer rice remain high. Nang Nhen rice continues to lead with a price of 28,000 VND/kg. Other popular rice varieties such as Huong Lai and Japanese rice are priced at 22,000 VND/kg. Regular rice varieties have the lowest prices, ranging from 12,000 to 13,000 VND/kg.

Vietnamese rice export prices have risen sharply.

According to data from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the export price of Vietnamese rice continues its impressive growth trend. In particular, Jasmine rice has increased by $17/ton compared to the beginning of the week, currently reaching $525-$529/ton.

In addition, fragrant rice with 5% broken grains is being offered at $505-$520 per ton. Rice with 100% broken grains also saw an increase of $5 per ton, reaching $336-$340 per ton. This trend indicates that demand for high-quality Vietnamese rice in the international market remains strong.

The global market is currently showing a clear divergence. While Thai 5% broken rice increased by $4/ton (reaching $426-$430/ton), the same type from India decreased slightly by $2/ton, down to $342-$346/ton.
