The rice market in the Mekong Delta remained stable on April 28th. Prices for fresh paddy rice generally fluctuated between 5,100 and 6,100 VND/kg amidst limited supply.
The rice market in the Mekong Delta region on April 28th was quiet. Although prices generally remained unchanged compared to the previous session, trading activity was quite slow due to dwindling supply in many localities while consumer demand has not shown significant improvement.
Fresh rice prices remain stable at low levels.
Updated data from An Giang shows that the prices of fresh rice of all types are currently fluctuating within a narrow range. In Can Tho and Tay Ninh, due to the small area of unharvested rice, farmers tend to maintain high prices, making it difficult for traders to purchase. Conversely, localities such as Ca Mau, Dong Thap, and Vinh Long are recording a quiet market with limited transaction volumes.

Raw rice and by-product market
In the raw rice segment, prices continue to remain stable. In Dong Thap, the amount of rice arriving at warehouses is not large, leading to some units temporarily suspending purchasing. In the An Cu area, transactions are only occurring sporadically with no significant price fluctuations.

Retail rice prices at local markets
In the domestic market, retail rice prices remained unchanged compared to the previous day. Nang Nhen rice maintained its highest price at 28,000 VND/kg. Fragrant rice varieties such as Huong Lai and Thai fragrant rice ranged from 20,000 to 22,000 VND/kg, while common white rice remained at 16,000 VND/kg.
Export markets maintain a competitive advantage.
According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the export price of Vietnamese rice continues to remain stable at a high level. 5% broken rice is currently offered at around US$490-500 per ton, significantly higher than its main competitors, Thailand (US$388-392 per ton) and India (US$346-350 per ton).
This disparity reflects the quality and specific demand for high-quality fragrant and white rice varieties from Vietnam in the international market, although price competition from India remains present in the 100% broken rice segment.
