The domestic rice market on March 5th was quiet, with limited supply and sluggish trading. In the Mekong Delta region, the basic price of raw rice remained stable, while some localities recorded slight adjustments, but these did not create significant widespread fluctuations.

In key areas such as An Giang and Tien Giang, purchasing activities have slowed down, with many warehouses temporarily suspending transactions, leading to a decrease in sales volume. In particular, the supply of high-quality rice is currently quite scarce, putting slight pressure on prices in some segments.

For the retail market, prices of finished rice varieties continue to remain stable. Common rice is priced at 13,000 – 14,000 VND/kg; Thai fragrant rice at 20,000 – 22,000 VND/kg; and Jasmine rice at around 22,000 VND/kg. Nang Nhen rice, however, maintains the highest price, approximately 28,000 VND/kg.

Fresh rice trading has slowed down in many provinces and cities such as Can Tho, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, and Vinh Long. However, prices still show a clear differentiation between varieties:
- High-quality rice:OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 range from 6,500 – 6,700 VND/kg; Nang Hoa from 6,000 – 6,200 VND/kg.
- Common rice:Fresh IR 50404 is being purchased at 5,400 – 5,500 VND/kg; OM 5451 at approximately 5,800 – 6,000 VND/kg.
- Dried rice:Dried Nang Nhen rice maintains a stable high price around 20,000 VND/kg.
In addition, prices of by-products such as bran and broken rice have not fluctuated much. The price of bran hovers around 7,950 – 8,150 VND/kg, while the price of broken rice remains at 7,500 – 7,600 VND/kg.
Export markets and international prospects
According to data from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), Vietnam's export rice prices continue to maintain an advantage over other countries in the region. Specifically, Vietnamese 5% broken white rice is offered at 359-363 USD/ton, lower than Thailand (381-385 USD/ton) but higher than India (351-355 USD/ton).
In terms of long-term prospects, a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) indicates that total global rice supply for the 2025-2026 crop year is expected to reach a record 732.6 million tons. Although production may be lower than the previous year, strong demand from Asia and Africa is expected to continue supporting international rice prices in the near future.
