The price a man must pay to become a 'slave' to drugs
(Baonghean.vn) - In his youth, Luyen became a "slave" to drugs and paid a heavy price. Released from prison at an old age, the man continued to indulge in that illegal substance and was arrested again. Notably, this third time in prison, Luyen suffered a stroke that caused his health to decline.
"Selling oneself" to drugs
On the day Lo Van Luyen (born in 1968), residing in Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district, was brought to court for trial for "Illegal drug trafficking", the defendant repeatedly turned his head to look for his relatives. Far below in the courtroom, several relatives came to attend the trial. On each haggard face, everyone showed clear sadness when meeting Luyen again in such an ironic situation.
With his small stature, no one would have thought that this was the third time Luyen had been brought to trial for drugs. Before becoming a drug dealer, Luyen was a drug addict. From an addict, this man bought and sold drugs. In the end, in 2002, Lo Van Luyen had to pay the price with a 14-year prison sentence. A year later, Luyen was sentenced to 10 years in prison for "illegally buying and selling drugs". The total sentence that Luyen had to serve was 24 years in prison.

By 2019, Luyen had completed his prison sentence and returned to his hometown to live with his wife and children. It was thought that after a major setback in his life, the husband and father would change and work hard to make up for his wife and children, but only a few years later he was back in trouble with the law. The third time he committed the same crime made many people feel sick of Luyen.
Accordingly, at noon on December 16, 2022, Lo Van Luyen walked to the hill area near his house to buy drugs from a stranger. After agreeing on a price, Luyen gave 20 million VND and received many packages of pink pills and heroin. Luyen took some of the drugs he bought to use, and hid the rest to sell for profit.
Three days later, Luyen sold some heroin to a young man of unknown address for 200,000 VND. That same afternoon, the police searched Lo Van Luyen's house and discovered more than 85 grams of various drugs hidden in the house. For the above actions, Luyen was prosecuted for "Illegal trading of narcotics".
Late in life, fighting illness in prison
During the trial, Luyen sincerely admitted his mistakes and showed remorse. The defendant said that after being released from prison for a while, he relapsed and turned to drugs. Having no stable job and being addicted to drugs, his life was in a vicious cycle, with no way out. Then Luyen closed his eyes and followed in his own footsteps, even though he knew that a tragic ending awaited him.
The third time he was in trouble with the law at an advanced age, Luyen fell ill while in detention. The defendant told the court that during his detention, he had a stroke and had to be treated in the hospital for a long time. Currently, his health has not recovered. Defendant Luyen asked the Trial Council to consider reducing his sentence so that he could return to his family, wife and children soon and receive medical treatment.

The court entered the deliberation, and several relatives were still sitting in the lower part of the courtroom without approaching. Luyen tried to turn his head down to look at everyone. After much hesitation, the defendant finally reminded his relatives to remember to send money to buy medicine… Having gone through so many incidents caused by himself, perhaps falling ill while in prison was what worried Luyen the most. Therefore, the thing this defendant wanted most was to have money for medical treatment.
The Provincial People's Court's panel of judges determined that the defendant had sufficient awareness to understand the dangers of drugs. The defendant has a bad character, his actions are dangerous to society, and the drug trade will cause huge consequences for the younger generation, affecting the maintenance of the race due to drugs and disrupting local security and order. Therefore, the court sentenced Lo Van Luyen to 16 years in prison for the crime of "Illegal trading of narcotics".drug".
When he was young, Luyen "sold" his youth to drugs. When he was old and his health was poor, Lo Van Luyen had to pay for his mistake with a 16-year prison sentence. This is certainly a valuable lesson for those who sell themselves to drugs, because once "hooked" on them, sooner or later they will be caught up in the law and live in prison.
