Fruit and vegetable exports are expected to reach US$8.59 billion in 2025.
According to data from the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit), the export value of fruits and vegetables in 2025 is expected to reach approximately US$8.59 billion, a growth of nearly 20% compared to 2024. Durian currently contributes nearly 50% of this total value, affirming its role as a key agricultural product of Vietnam in the international market.
The strong recovery of Vietnamese durian followed a period when businesses tightened control over residue levels of Yellow O and cadmium. Standardizing production not only helped overcome technical barriers but also increased Vietnam's competitiveness against Thailand in the Chinese market.
New challenges from quarantine requirements
However, experts are warning about new regulations from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC). The list of five mandatory pest control measures, along with stringent requirements for cleaning, sorting, and traceability, is posing a major challenge for the supply chain.
Data-driven traceability is now a key factor in enhancing commercial value. Shipments with clearly marked growing areas and transparent care logs not only clear customs more easily but also receive more favorable prices from partners in the US, EU, and Japan.
