Today, February 1st, domestic pepper prices are at 147,000 - 148,200 VND/kg. The market remains calm during the Tet holiday week despite coffee prices reaching an all-time high.
Domestic pepper prices today
The highest pepper purchase price recorded in key pepper-growing regions (Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Dak Nong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc) was 148,200 VND/kg.
Specifically, in Dak Nong province, the price of pepper is 148,200 VND/kg. This remains unchanged from yesterday.
In Gia Lai, the price of pepper is 147,500 VND/kg. This remains unchanged from yesterday.
In Dak Lak, the price of pepper is 148,200 VND/kg. This remains unchanged from yesterday.
In Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai provinces, the price of pepper today is 147,000 VND/kg, unchanged from yesterday.
In Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the price of pepper today is 147,000 VND/kg. This remains unchanged from yesterday.
Thus, the lowest price for pepper in the domestic market today is 147,000 VND/kg.
Both the Vietnamese market and those in other countries remained flat during the Lunar New Year holiday in the world's largest pepper-producing nation.
Meanwhile, this week Robusta coffee prices rose 2.2% to $5,734 per ton, reaching an all-time high. Farmers in Vietnam, the world's largest producer of Robusta coffee, are pausing sales to await further price increases, while trade and shipping are expected to slow down at the end of January due to the Lunar New Year holiday.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association predicts that the impact of climate change in 2024 will somewhat affect pepper production. However, some areas in the provinces are experiencing favorable weather conditions.
In Dak Nong, the pepper capital of Vietnam, production is recorded at a level similar to last year. Production in some areas of other key provinces such as Gia Lai, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau is also showing positive trends as rising pepper prices encourage farmers to invest in caring for and restoring their existing pepper gardens.
Meanwhile, in Dak Lak province, the province with the second largest area and production of pepper, the area is estimated to be declining as people switch to growing durian trees, and there is not much new planting activity.
Today's world pepper prices
On the world market, based on quotations from exporting companies and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of various types of pepper traded on the international market on February 1st (local time) as follows:
Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices rose slightly compared to yesterday, reaching US$7,165/ton (up 0.11%). Additionally, Muntok white pepper prices also increased sharply compared to yesterday, reaching US$9,672/ton (up 2.23%).
The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,150 per ton.
Malaysian ASTA black pepper prices remained stable compared to yesterday, currently at US$9,000/ton. Additionally, the price of ASTA white pepper from the same country also remained unchanged compared to yesterday, at US$11,600/ton.
Prices for all types of Vietnamese pepper remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Specifically, the price of Vietnamese black pepper (500 gr/l) reached US$6,350/ton; and the price of black pepper (550 gr/l) reached US$6,650/ton.
Similarly, the price of Vietnamese white pepper remained unchanged compared to yesterday at $9,550 per ton.
