Pepper prices today, April 1, 2026: Domestic prices decreased uniformly by 2000 VND/kg compared to yesterday. Vietnamese black pepper export prices fell sharply by nearly 5%, to 6,000–6,100 USD/ton.

In Dak Lak and Dak Nong, pepper prices fell to 139,000 VND/kg. In Ba Ria-Vung Tau, prices dropped to 138,500 VND/kg. Gia Lai, Binh Phuoc, and Dong Nai all recorded a common price of 138,000 VND/kg.

World pepper prices on April 1, 2026: Vietnamese black pepper prices fall sharply, while Indonesian pepper prices rise in the opposite direction.
According to data from the International Pepper Association (IPC), the export price of Vietnamese black pepper has fallen sharply by 4.69–4.76% (equivalent to $300/ton), to only $6,000–6,100/ton for 500 g/l and 550 g/l grades.
Conversely, the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper increased by 1.67% (US$117/ton), reaching US$7,122/ton. The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper remained unchanged at US$6,100/ton; Malaysian black pepper remained stable at US$9,300/ton.

Indonesian Muntok white pepper prices rose 1.16% ($108/ton) to $9,382/ton. Vietnamese export white pepper prices fell 1.66% ($150/ton) to $8,900/ton. Malaysian white pepper prices remained unchanged at $12,200/ton.

Germany's pepper imports fell by 26.3%, with Vietnam still leading the market share.
According to IPC statistics, in January 2026, Germany's pepper imports reached 1,703 tons, a decrease of 26.3% compared to the same period in 2025.
Vietnam continues to be the largest supplier of pepper to the German market with a volume of 849 tons, accounting for 49.9% of the market share, despite a decrease of 34.2% compared to the same period last year. This is followed by Brazil with 526 tons (30.9%, down 26.1%), the Czech Republic with 69 tons (4.1%), Indonesia with 37 tons (2.2%), and Sri Lanka and Spain with 35 tons each.
Gia Lai is in the peak pepper harvest season, and farmers are facing a labor shortage.
According to Gia Lai Newspaper, farmers in western Gia Lai are entering the peak season for harvesting pepper in the 2015-2026 crop year. Despite high pepper prices, a labor shortage is significantly impacting the harvesting process.
After the Lunar New Year in 2026, key pepper-growing regions such as Chu Se, Chu Puh, Kon Gang, Ia Hru, Bo Ngoong, and Mang Yang simultaneously entered the harvest season. The harvesting atmosphere was bustling, however, the labor force this year has significantly decreased compared to previous years. Many households were forced to mobilize family members or exchange labor with neighboring households to harvest the peppers in a timely manner, minimizing losses due to ripe peppers falling off the trees.
The entire commune currently has about 650 hectares of pepper plantations entering the harvesting stage, but so far only over 30% has been harvested. The main reasons are a shortage of labor, coupled with this year's unusual weather patterns with prolonged cold spells and unseasonal rains, causing the peppers to ripen unevenly and prolonging the harvesting period.
Gia Lai has 8,456 hectares of pepper plantations, and farmers are shifting towards organic farming.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture, Gia Lai province currently has 8,456 hectares of pepper plantations, with an annual production of over 28,000 tons. In recent years, pepper prices have tended to recover and remain stable at a high level, creating motivation for people to continue investing in development. Many households have switched to intercropping with coffee, applying organic farming processes to improve quality and meet the requirements of the export market.
To ensure timely harvesting, minimize losses, and maintain product quality, proactively managing human resources remains a key factor. Local authorities need appropriate solutions for regulating seasonal labor, while encouraging farmers to cooperate and support each other in production to enhance the value of Gia Lai pepper and bring sustainable income to farmers.
